No-frills Thai airline to hit the skies

BANGKOK: -- Nok Air, a new Thai low-cost airline, will begin flying from July 20, servicing domestic routes from Bangkok.

Using 737-400 aircraft, Nok Air will operate five round-trips per day to Chiang Mai, three to Udorn Thani and two to Hat Yai.

The company said it would stick to the "no frills" concept, which is beginning to catch on in Southeast Asia.

Several discount airlines have been created this year, including ValuAir and Tiger Airways in Singapore. While ValuAir is already in the skies, Tiger Airways should start by the end of the year.
