Transport Chiang Mai Airport Tightens Security Measures to Prevent Repeat of Phuket Bomb Scare
Picture courtesy of Matichon. Chiang Mai International Airport has stepped up its security protocols in the wake of a recent bomb scare at Phuket International Airport, aiming to boost passenger confidence and ensure maximum safety for all travellers. Air Vice Marshal Ronakorn Chalermsanyakorn, Director of Chiang Mai Airport, announced on 27 June, that following the discovery of a device concealed in a motorbike at Phuket Airport, enhanced security measures were implemented immediately at Chiang Mai Airport. The airport has increased the frequency of routine patrols from five to seven rounds per day. Inspections for suspicious or unattended items within passenger terminals and public areas have also been intensified, now conducted 14 times daily, up from the previous 10. Security personnel are applying stricter screening procedures for individuals, vehicles and items entering or exiting restricted and controlled zones of the airport. In addition, public announcements have been made urging owners of motorbikes abandoned for extended periods within airport grounds to retrieve their vehicles. Owners are required to present both their motorbike registration documents and national ID cards to the airport’s security department during official hours to reclaim their vehicles. This measure aims to maintain order and eliminate potential threats to public safety. Chiang Mai Airport expressed its gratitude to passengers and the public for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to continuously improving safety standards. The airport assured that every journey through its terminals will be secure and worry-free. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-06-28 -

LTR Visa is Now available for Long Term Residency
I received my LTR P Visa in January 2023. At the time, I was considering relocating to Thailand and, admittedly, may have been a bit bored during COVID. On my application, I used a friend’s address in Thailand (he has since moved). I typically visit Thailand three to four times a year, usually for a week or two each time. Does anyone foresee any issues with this arrangement? I assume that at the five-year mark, I’ll need to provide a new address along with updated proof of insurance and income. -

Picture courtesy of InsideThailand A 39-year-old man wanted for operating an illegal online gambling platform was arrested at Don Mueang International Airport, while preparing to flee to Laos. The arrest was carried out under the direction of Pol. Lt. Gen. Panumas Boonyalak, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, alongside senior immigration officials including Pol. Maj. Gen. Thanit Thaiwatcharamat, Deputy Commissioner; Pol. Maj. Gen. Cherngron Rimpadee, Commander of Immigration Division 2; and other key officers stationed at the Don Mueang Airport Immigration Checkpoint. The suspect, identified as Mr. Jiraphan, was apprehended by investigators from the Immigration Division 2’s suppression team at the international departure hall on the third floor of Terminal 1. He was about to board AirAsia flight FD1040 bound for Vientiane, Laos. Mr. Jiraphan is wanted under an arrest warrant issued by Chiang Mai Provincial Court on charges of money laundering and operating the illicit online gambling site “EPIC WIN-TH,” with transactions exceeding 5 million baht. Immigration officers seized two mobile phones from the suspect, believed to be used in the operation of the gambling network. He has since been handed over to be transported back to Mae Ping Provincial Police Station in Chiang Mai for further legal proceedings. Authorities continue to crack down on online gambling networks, which are illegal under national laws but have proliferated across digital platforms in recent years.
