Roma is more interesting. Bangkok is a poor man's Roma.

Considering the outrageous prices some top notch tailors ask in Bangkok, one may assume it's better value to shop in Roma or Milano for upscale suitings or shirtings for a lower price,. Not to mention the scams in the quality of the material that some dishonest tailors in Thailand have made a routine.

Wikipedia has a list that is "probably" more authoritative.    They only count people that stay in a city 24 hours.  Not all that different a list.  Hong Kong leads in that one, with three Thai cities in the top 20.  Bangkok 2nd,  Phuket No. 16, Pattaya at 19.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_international_visitors

P.S.  Edit:  It seems to use 2019 data.

Not buying this. Paris is likely far higher. France averages 90 million tourist arrivals per year. Spain is now averaging 8 to 9 million a month. Thailand? Maybe 15 million, so far this year, and they figure no doubt includes expat arrivals and returns, and business travel.

As they say in New York pure malarkey.

The temples are such a draw....

I take reports such as this with a pinch of salt, but what I do know is that it was bustling around the Grand Palace yesterday. It was good to see some life there again. I wasn't really paying attention but I saw mostly westerners. The tuk tuk drivers and street sellers were all very polite too.

Bangkok Post this morning is saying 15 million arrivals so far this year. Here it says 22 million arrivals so far this year. Why such a massive difference?

Could it be because foreigners count Thais as often having two faces?

Bangkok is more affordable than other cities in the top 20 even taking into account its 300% tax on luxury items, and is well-known for its colourful street life, where you can stumble over the uneven pavements/sidewalks, waiting in anticipation for a change in wind to give you a face full of choking fried chillies or having your hip broken by a motorbike tax using the footway to avoid the choking traffic fumes. Food and cultural wonders, like sticky rice such and the Grand Palace and Wat Arun.

The city has something for everyone, from high end shopping malls to low-cost street markets selling crap chinese imported items that breach copyright  laws. Its bustling nightlife and street food are famous around the world one of thebfew places where you can receive oral sex whilst drinking some snake blood, and the city serves as a gateway to other parts of Thailand, such as the islands famous for its murders! Yes Bangkok has something for everyone.

The table is labelled 2022-2023 so perhaps it is 12 months rather than just the first 7 months of the year.

Could be, but then the text and title are wrong. "Bangkok is the world’s most visited city this year" it states. If it said "......city this past year" it would make matching sense. Looking again at the author (Vietnamese) and source (Thailand) of the text it all now makes perfect sense!

How do they collect data? If France has 90 million visitors, how many of those are from neighboring countries that do not require any sort of border/passport check? How many that go to France skip Paris? How many skip Bangkok that come to Thailand? How many are not tourists but retirees, etc?

Where do the numbers come from and are they a valid reflection of reality?
