Pattaya — Jomtien business operators have complained about over 100 food cart vendors reportedly taking up all the beach area to themselves.

Mrs. Lamphueng “Lisa” Hamilton, the chairwoman of the Jomtien-Pattaya Entertainment Association, brought attention to the pressing issue of congestion on the road alongside Jomtien Beach. The situation has escalated, particularly during twilight hours, due to a large assembly of over 100 food carts that occupy the road to set up their stalls.

Mrs. Lamphueng further stated that she, along with her fellow entrepreneurs from the club, conducted surveys of various areas along the road. They discovered that there were large groups of vendors and peddlers with food tricycles everywhere, blaring loud music along the beach that often lasted until dawn.

It's in the "business operators" interest to complain about vendors, they offer a cheap alternative to boutique restaurants, hotel restaurants, shopping malls, you name it.  They don't want you satisfying your hunger or shopping needs cheaper than they can do it.

I for one do think they should be regulated in some fashion but not to the detriment of family supporting/run small business operators.

Have you been to Jomtien lately?  There's hundred's of those food carts all along beach road, in the past (pre-covid) there were some carts but not like the numbers we have today.

I'm guessing those Jomtien beach road businesses are paying a chunk of money in rental fees, meanwhile the food carts pay zero in rental fees.

But soon they will????

hmm... 100 food carts taking up ALL the beach area to themselves (as per the article).

the beach is 5 Km long (if counting from Pratamnak beach parking til Nakawari Village), and let's estimate the average width of the beach to 30m (it's probably more, especially if counting the footway).

So we can factually conclude that a single food cart has a surface of at least 1500 square meters.

Late last year, when tourists started returning to Jomtien, especially weekends, so many vendors crowded into the southern end of Jomtien beach Road that it became nearly impassable.  City officials finally cracked down and restricted vendors tying up public parking spaces and instead, facilitated development of a large new night market near Soi 16 where the vendors could set-up.

It worked for a while and the traffic congestion eased but the vendor carts started creeping back in and cops had other things to do.  Now they are back to the same level as last year and again, on weekends that end of Jomtien beach Road is a nightmare, especially the section from Soi 18 on south that narrows down.   Thais like to party on the new enlarged beach in that area and the carts provide the cheap food they want.

dddave is the only person who has any real knowledge about what is happening at the south end of Jomtien Beach Road. The rest of the comments here are just uninformed blather.
