I believe most of the married farang men that I know are married to bar girls. Some of the girls are some of the nicest, kind and giving girls. I would have married them if I had met them outside the bar scene. I, truth be told, have never been with a bar girl, don't really like bar "atmosphere", don't drink much. But I know many get into that work to find a Farang husband. Some here who's husbands have died and left them with a nice house and money return to the bars to find another. We tend to judge them by our Judio-christian upbring. Thai women see the world differently. I agree with you but only to some extent, to the bar girls it's just a job that pays well to support family back home and I think given the chance of a let's say office job with same salary they would jump at it, also bar girls make up around 0.00001% of thai women and they not all the same. Get away from the tourist areas and see the differance

I'm so glad you are so woke and don't marry a "bar girl", thus saving her a heck of a lot of future grief living and putting up with you.

 

What's not to get, you fall in love, it happens, bar girl or other title.

 

For the record, 16 years and going strong, 2 kids and the rest is history, happier than a pig in mud.

 

I got it.

 

I get to live in another country that is far more relaxed than my home country and is cheaper by far.

 

I don't have to pay any taxes as a foreign resident and of course don't have to work.

 

What makes for a successful marriage in my books, regardless of a woman's job title, e.g. "bar girl", restaurant waitress etc is the personality of the person your marrying, and as long as you keep your finances separate (support) but do not hand over your finances, then your marriage (business) will continue to succeed, hand it over by wearing your heart on your sleeve, then you are opening yourself up to a possible failure, as others have found out, other have also managed to continue happily, each to their own, and as far as I'm concerned you only invest as much as you're prepared to lose, house, car, bike etc, whereas your investments remain separate for that fall back position if ever. 

 

I hope you find your true virgin soon and that she has an income so that you don't have to support her and that it's love at 1st sight, oh and a bit of advice, stay away from bar girls, they're a bad breed, according to the expert who posted this topic

Let me tell you.... A true story..... (I have lived and worked in Thailand for about 30 years.)

 

I was married to a 'good' Thai girl in the early 1990s a couple of years after starting work in BKK. From a well-off family, she was a trained lawyer and got a job in the city (Bangkok). We have wonderful children - but our marriage was a nightmare. After 12 years of living together (9 as married) we divorced 17 years ago. 

 

Three years after the divorce (around 2009) I married a bar girl. From Pattaya. Everyone told me not to. But my marriage to my 'bargirl' wife is great. We are going strong, she helps continuously with my work and around the house and with looking after everything. We have two wonderful kids and enjoy our time together tremendously. Yes, we have ups and downs - but I wouldn't change her for anyone else.

 

So what's the answer to your question? Well, for me, it's clear.
