webfact Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 A heart-warming tale emerged in the district of Bua Yai, Nakhon Ratchasima province, of a 16 year old high school Thai girl selling grilled chicken to take care of her bedridden mother. The resourceful and caring teenager hopes to become a nurse in the future, a dream fuelled by her commitment to helping others. News broke this morning of a high school girl, identified as Ploy, selling grilled chicken to provide for her bedridden mother, who was injured in an accident at a construction site. Ploy, who lives at number 138 in Kudjok, Bua Yai district, was often seen helping her 36 year old mother, Kritkunthod, before her injury. Since the accident, Ploy has had to take on household chores and responsibilities like feeding and bathing her bedridden mother, cleaning their home, and washing dishes and clothes. In addition, Ploy sells grilled chicken every day after school to buy food for her mother. According to Ploy, there are four members of her family including an 18 year old brother and a young sister in kindergarten. Their father works as a construction worker in another province and occasionally sends home about 1,000 baht. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of KhaoSod. She is helping her bedridden and disabled mother in the best way she can. Good for Ploy. At least she is DOING something to help, and is not a keyboard warrior doing nothing to help anybody. 9 5

Indeed, she is a role model. 1 2

phetpeter Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 No news about her 18 year old brother? plus father working away from home and occassionally sending home a 1000baht! Giving out her address also, would seem to be a new way for a go fund me. So, who looks after mother when she is at school? 1 1

Brother and father get a brief mention, obviously nothing of merit, almost a scolding for not sending regularly enough, but we got the full address for donations if anybody is minded to donate. At the end of the day it isn't much of a story except family having to pull together in sad and difficult times and some doing more than others. Reminds me of my own family in days gone by. I came from a family of seven children and a widowed mother who held down two full time jobs to keep our family afloat. There was no super ' benefits Britain ' in those days. The first up was the best dressed in our house! 2 1
Popular Post timendres Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 This story plays out many many times every day across Thailand. But it is nice to see the occasional news article reminding us that there are still good people in this world, despite the impression you will get from the more shocking news that steadily competes for eyeballs. Good on Ploy for stepping up, and I hope things go well for her and her family. 1 2

Most likely the brother is unemployed or does not significantly contribute, despite being older and probably graduated high school already. The father sending home only 1000 "occassionally" also isn't surprising as he's likely spending most of his salary on himself. Thailand is weird like that - the women are expected to take care of the family even if they can barely take care of themselves. Kinda shocking and brings us back to reality of real costs/earnings here that she's only making 100-200 baht a day. An entire family living on under 10k a month.
