Taxi Ignites in Midst of Chao Phraya River Ferry Crossing, Engulfed in Flames

News outlets reported that Lt. Col. Teerasak Chaimanee, Deputy Inspector of Phra Pradaeng Police Station, received information about a taxi catching fire while parked on the pedestrian bridge crossing the Chao Phraya River in front of Phra Pradaeng Police Station on Srinakarin Dam Road, Samut Prakan Province. Upon notification, the local fire department rushed to the scene to control the flames.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames engulfing a pink Toyota Altis taxi with license plate THS 4550 Bangkok. The fire was centered around the engine compartment and spreading towards the passenger cabin.

Firefighters promptly doused the flames within approximately 20 minutes. A startled passenger, Mr. Payung Nakchum, 58, was found at the scene, reported Siam Rath.

According to Mr. Payung, the taxi driver, he was driving normally from the Phra Pradaeng side to reach Pak Nam Hospital. Upon crossing the pedestrian bridge, he noticed the air conditioning was not working and turned off the engine.

 

Suddenly, sparks and flames emerged from the air vent, leading him to instruct the passenger to evacuate before authorities arrived. The car had just been operational for a mere three days.

Initial inquiries, which involved documenting the location with pictures, were carried out by the relevant officials.The burnt taxi was taken to Phra Pradaeng Police Station as evidence for further inspection and legal procedures.
