Bangkok-Nong Khai high-speed train expected to enter service in 2027

Construction of the Thai-Chinese high-speed train between Bangkok and the north-eastern border province of Nong Khai is progressing satisfactorily, with the construction of the 250.77km section between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima province already almost 40% complete.

 

For the second section, between Nakhon Ratchasima and Nong Khai, State Railways of Thailand (SRT) has recently completed the study and design of the project and it is ready to be submitted to the cabinet for approval, according to Sorapong Paitoonphong, deputy permanent secretary of Transport Ministry, in his briefing to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Thursday during his field inspection of the project.

 

The Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima section comprises 181.9km of elevated rail track, 64km of ground-level track and a 6.4km tunnel. There will be six stations on this section, which are Bang Sue main terminal, Don Mueang, Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Pak Chong and Nakhon Ratchasima. The cost of this section is estimated at about 179.4 billion baht.

Should remove all the ground level stuff and crossings. What could possibly go wrong? Keep it to elevated only. Don't want any beached/stalled vehicles (tractors, busses, trucks or tuktuks on the tracks).

Yes,  quite different, only one item on the graphic refers to the OP, Thai-China railway.

The article only says expected for public service in 2027, not that it would be fully complete.

The section north of Bangkok would be to Vientiane, not just Nong Khai. The whole project is behind, originally scheduled for 2040, estimates are now nearer 2050.

So, "almost" 100 out of 625km have been completed (which I assume doesn't include signals), and service will begin in four years? Hmm...

High-speed rail has completely separated rights of away, even at ground level - there aren't any at-grade crossings. Yes, encroachments through the fences are always a possibility, but by vehicles - no.

I bet there is some minibus mafia already applying to be the sole supplier of transport from ship to shore for a fixed 200 baht/person for the 100m!

The high speed lines will be standard gauge. How else can a train run directly from Kunmin in China to Bangkok?

Pleased that it's actually going ahead. Unfortunately, many of us won't be around to benefit.
