Probably you haven't noticed it.

Isn't Malibu in America? Well it certainly happens there, just look at the example of Hunter Biden, or the kid who killed 4 people in a car crash driving the wrong way on a highway, and got off (suspended sentence) because he was suffering from affluenza, and had never had to be accountable for his actions before (look it up, it's from Texas).

google Bernie Murdoc, Elizabeth Homes, Jeffery Epstein, Martha Stewart and many more

He has stayed away all these years. If he had stayed to fight his case, even if he had lost, he would have been out of clink by now.

If he knows the case against him was unjust, he should have fought it. Not come back grovelling on his belly for a pardon.

I agree.

I am sure that he could have negotiated house arrest with a ban from politics.

Anybody who flies to Thailand in a golf stream jet and owns it won’t be spending time in jail act one he came back act two after several hours, he suddenly got very ill and was flown by helicopter to a hospital act three he submits a letter to be pardoned and what do you think act four will be TIT

Act 4 will be that he will choose to run for parliament again.
Sad part is this sets a poor example for every public servant. They will only scam the system even more.

And you know this for a fact? He's probably also got a "taster" to check that it hasn't been poisoned, right? Or maybe that's what made him ill in the first place causing him to be transferred from the prison hospital to the Police hospital, right?

I know how Thailand roles for the elite.. you obviously choose to wear blinkers.

Does he have to provide reasons why he should get the royal clemency?

Good behavior - fail.

He is really sorry for his crimes - fail.

He compensated the damaged parties - fail.

He will never do it again - fail.

He was already a substantial time in jail - fail.

I am sure we could add 100 other reasons why he doesn't deserve what he asks for.

He might be sorry a bit for letting his daughter wear high heels to the buffalo farm in Isan

It has nothing at all to do with Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam.

The sooner he learns that the better.

He doesn't seem to understand that he is not important and he never was.

The application has been sent to someone way above his pay grade and position.

It seems to me that he cannot let go of the tiny bit of power he had.

His actual position, and has been since the election in May, is only a Deputy Prime Minister in a caretaker government.

Somewhat akin to an office boy or a gofer.

All he needs do is mark it 'No further action' and file it under 'Archive'

Which of the following would you choose:

1. Travel the world, unfettered, for 17 years as a billionaire, return to Thailand at a time of your choosing, spend a week or two in a 5 star room and then receive a full pardon

or

2. Spend 8 - 10 years in a Thai jail as whilst the country is run by your political enemies who are determined to destroy you and can operate outside any laws if and as they please

Again, bit of a no brainer, don’t you think?

Stay and fight the unjust charges?
What, like Alexei Navalny did in Russia.

Idiocy.

It’s very unlikely Thaksin is grovelling on his belly in his 5 star room as his proxy is being installed as Prime Minister.

Owl sees…. ????????????????

But he does not have the authority to do that.

If he tried PTP would be all over him for abusing his very limited authority. There are a lot more of them than there is of him.

They are also the incoming government whereas he is a cast off from the old regime

I thought that if it is rejected, he must wait for another 2 years before he can reapply.

Perhaps that's the law, but this is Thailand.

A further 12 months confined to his hospital bed.  Will he survive that long?

His Majesty the King has granted a royal pardon to ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra. Thaksin's prison sentence has been reduced to one year.

[Update] The reduction of inmate Thaksin's sentence was printed in the Royal Gazette dated August 31, confirming the new reports.

This development came only one day after Caretaker Justice Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam announced that the former prime minister had filed the royal pardon. Initial reports said the entire process for requesting a royal pardon could take 1-2 months.

Latest news is that he has received clemency, his sentence is reduced to 1 year, which due to health concerns is likley to be 'hospital'....

So... next chapter in this ???

Will he needs 24 hour medical care that can only be provided at home...  ???

It would be fun to suppose that he expected to get off scot free and they done him up like a kipper, in which case he might feel like Julian Assange, who spent 7 years holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy, and then got thrown into prison.  But one year (down to 6 months for good behaviour - down to 3 months for medical reasons) was probably all part of the deal. He can just put his feet up for a while.

Thai Ex-PM Thaksin’s Jail Sentence Reduced from 8 to 1 Year Due to Royal Pardon

230901100822-thaksin-shinawatra-0822.jpg

Today, September 1st, it is reported that His Majesty the King has granted a reduction in a serving time for Thaksin from 8 years to 1 year.

According to the statement published in the Royal Gazette, Thaksin’s jail sentence has been shortened because he has previously served as the Prime Minister who carried out the duties for the benefit of the nation and the people.

He also has remorse for his transgressions, loyalty to the monarchy institution, and concerning health issues that require medical treatment from specialized physicians, as the statement read.
