Trump trial in Fulton County will be televised, judge says

Former President Donald Trump's trial in Fulton County, Georgia, will be televised and live streamed, a judge said Thursday. 

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee said he will allow a YouTube stream of all related hearings and trials stemming from the investigation into an alleged scheme to overturn the state's 2020 presidential election results. The live stream will be operated by the court. There will also be pool coverage for television, radio and still photography allowed, he said.

The former president has pleaded not guilty in the case. He surrendered last week at the Fulton County jail, after he and 18 others were indicted for allegedly participating in a "criminal enterprise" that aimed to overturn his loss in Georgia's 2020 presidential election. Trump is charged with 13 felony counts. 

A date for his trial has not yet been set. 

This would be the first time cameras would be allowed to capture full proceedings in one of the four criminal cases brought against Trump this year. Georgia allows cameras in the courtroom as long as they do not disrupt proceedings. 

A number of photographers were allowed inside the courtroom for a few minutes before the start of the hearing in Trump's arraignment in New York in April, before they had to leave. Cameras are typically not allowed in New York courtrooms but news organizations had asked for an exception.

I can't help but feel the weaponization of the justice system against Trump could backfire badly if it is televised.

 

He's going to be in his element and whatever you think of him it's hard to deny the man has charisma. The whole nation will be glued to it, Trump will be hilarious and there is no such thing as bad publicity,

Whilst he may have the right to move to a federal court, IIRC that would be for a federal offence.

 

In Georgia he is charged with State and NOT federal charges, so even if he wins the potus election, he cannot grant a federal pardon for himself or any other defendant in a state case.

Not correct. The 'removal' would be because the individual was acting 'under the color' of his current Federal position in the Trump administration. If the judge so rules.

 

But the conviction would be under State of Georgia so no federal pardon possible. Correct.

LOL. The court proceedings are likely to put one to sleep, IMO.

Real courts are not like the ones on tv. It'll be hours of lawyers speaking and not much if any action.

The real action will be outside the courtrooms where there will likely be some demonstrations, unless they have closed all the streets for miles.

 

However, I could be wrong and Trump will have the opportunity to diss a lot of people if they ever let him near the witness chair.

Yup. Every time they come up with yet another attempt to legally prevent him standing for POTUS it increases his popularity. IMO more and more people are seeing through the bs and seeing it for what is really happening in an election cycle.

 

However, they should carry on making him more and more likely to win in 24.

Just to keep things simple:

 

If the Georgia trial remains in State Court, it can be televised.

 

If the trial is moved/remanded to Federal Court, it cannot be televised.
