What is a civilized country to you? 

 

For me, it is a country where minors is protected from abusers, and where kids and young people can grow up in safe environment, without pressure to be used by any authorities, or those who can execute power and influence their future negatively.

Age of consent is 16 almost everywhere (except the USA and Muslim countries).

I can't summon up any 'moral outrage' for a guy banging a 16yo.

I would say the reason is parental extortion.

They think the guy has some money and are trying to get some of it.

Can't see this going anywhere, he'll pay them, and the charges will go away.

At worst he'll have to marry her.

As a fellow teacher in Thailand, this disgusts me. You should never lay your hands in any way on your students, no matter their age. I teach 12 to 15 year olds at an Islamic school and I cannot for the life of me imagine even touching the girls. I feel bad already if there's any skin-to-skin contact and try to avoid it.

Even if I taught 18+ year olds, I'd stay far away. With a minor, it's even worse.

 

At the very least, this guy should be deported and blacklisted.
