Pheu Thai Govt To Be Slammed If ‘Inmate’ Thaksin Allowed Out Of Jail For Long: Academic

THE CONFIDENCE of the Pheu Thai-led government under Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will be adversely affected if de facto party boss Thaksin Shinawatra continues to literally keep himself as a convicted inmate out of jail for longer than appropriate, according to a noted academic.

 

Thammasat University law lecturer Prinya Thaewanarumitkul has posted on his Facebook page to say the Pheu Thai-led government will almost certainly be taken to task by members of society for allegedly applying double standards in favour of the former prime minister who might possibly be allowed to literally keep himself outside of Bangkok Remand Prison after he has recovered from “illnesses” at Police Hospital or any other hospital.

 

Prinya commented that the Srettha government’s integrity and stability will be more or less affected if the de facto Pheu Thai boss manages to literally keep himself out of jail, given a contentious excuse of “illnesses” such as a cardiac disease.

 

In the mid-morning of Aug.22, Thaksin was  brought from Don Mueang airport to the Supreme Court and then to Bangkok Remand Prison where he stayed barely a half day before he was transferred in the middle of the night to Police Hospital where he has been admitted for “illnesses” since.

there will be many reasons to reduce his sentence in the coming weeks so he doesn't stay in the hospital for long anymore... Trust in Pheu Thai is already gone, as they formed a Government with the army based parties instead of fighting them. And more promises use din the election will be broken.... The Government won't stay long in office

Let's face it, this election was stolen (as much as I hate to use a worn out Trumpian line).

 

This government is not legitimate. Let's face it.

Look at the history of the PM's here starting with Thaksin. Thief.

 

Then the Dems. Inept.

 

Then Thaksin's self appointed people. As bad as him.

 

Then the coup. Which lasted forever. The PM was completely overmatched and had an outsized ego. Didn't know what he was doing and did it anyway.

 

Finally the Thai people get this exciting young man who plans to make some changes for the good. And not only is Thaksin's party back, but he's back and he'll soon be walking free. Not to mention running the country again on autopilot. Let's face it, he already is from his penthouse suite in the hospital.

 

Confidence in government you say? Certainly you jest.

Confidence? From whom? All has been lost. Total abandonment of both promises and principles comes at a cost. There is no trust, nor confidence. That has to be earned. If possible. 

 

And will it matter? The people seem to have decided to be utterly and completely compliant, at this point. Where is the resistance to a great election injustice, anyway?

Such confidence as was shakeable has already been shaken, I think. Full pardon for T in, say, 3 or 4 months won't surprise any Thais and won't change attitudes towards the government one way or another. The pardon will come from on high in any case and people will be waiting for real-world performance from the government.

What makes you think they'd care? I've been coming to Thailand for more than 20 yrs.People have NEVER had confidence in the gov't during that time.Thaksin had a bit when he introduced cheap health care, but that's all I can remember any good for the people coming from of any of them.

Lethargy is deep rooted with most Thais.

The reds however were motivated, trouble is now they've been screwed by their own party and they don't know what to do.

Is Thaksin dying soon?

Does he have some ailment which will end this man's life relatively quickly so he can't be a future political threat?

I can't understand any other reason why he was allowed back to the LoS.  

This explains his immediate hospital stay and exam, so that the generals can verify this before completing whatever secret agreement they had to let him return.

I guess Thaksin wants to die and be buried in Thailand.
