Bit of an exaggeration.

 

You have to be physically installing malware for your bank account or email to be compromised. Sure, if you go on dodgy porn sites there is a greater risk. Remember fappening? Happened on your supposedly secure icloud service with those super secure iphones.

 

In any case you can always subscribe to a 3rd party service and get all the security you need.

An iPhone alone will not do much different from an Android phone, but as someone who uses many apple gadgets (computer, watch, TV, phone, iPad) they all play very nicely with each other and feel like an extension of one another.   Want to use the high quality camera from your phone as your "webcam", go ahead as it seamlessly uses it.   Want to use the iPad as a second screen for the computer, no problems.  Left your phone elsewhere in the house and want to pick up that call on the computer, no problems.  My gf uses an android phone and an iPad and even getting photos from one to another is a traumatic experience for her.

 

Switching to the best and most expensive Android phone available would be a huge downgrade, for me at least.   

I have all of the features you mention on my HP Computer, Samsung Tablet and Samsung phone, at a fraction of the cost of Apple products. Up to the individual what they buy, but I see no point in the rush for any Apple products, when cheaper options are available and as as good.

agree with you....I am 70 years old and never had anything/any product from Apple/MacIntosh/Mac..... and, for the keyboard warriors, I can afford it, the idea of being forced into buying ONLY their "monopoly" stuff turned me way from their start back in the 1980's

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Although my desktop is a mac M2 studio, my laptop is a macbook pro M1, and I use an ipad, I gave up the iphone. I consider it inferior on so many levels, to either the Samsung S22ultra, or the S23ultra. The iphone has become a fashion accessory, and a status symbol. Not necessarily the best phone out there.

could u buy software to be used in/with Apple products that didn't belong to Apple, could u buy charging/ connecting cables for any Apple's devices/products that didn't belong to Apple..... do u need more info as for Nokia monopoly on mobile phones, care to share some back up data

OK. I've never used an Apple device. That said, there had been times where I wanted to pair with a Bluetooth device it failed -  but with an Android, it was successful. Once, I needed to download a file to reinstall my laptop, again the download failed (driver file) - on an Android, no issues. No special Apps were necessary.

As a techie, I mess around a lot with similar stuff, and found iOS very temperamental!

There you have the difference between someone like myself and the vast majority of iPhone users. The vast majority have virtually every application they need all fantastic quality provided free. 
the few thing they don’t have, banking, line, WhatsApp are all easily available.

 

the included highly competent apps that provide 90% of functions in complex commercial programs and probably 150% of anything needed by the majority are all designed to be user friendly and generally easy to use.

 

the complaints you have are problems with individual devices that may have been optimised for android.

 

I have a reasonably in-depth knowledge of some iOS apps and their capabilities but it has taken years to gain that knowledge 

 

the things that you can do with apple provided free hi quality apps dwarf the android offerings. But that is only of use if you want to do the things they provide.
 

Like high quality video production with iMovie, not as professional as things like adobe premiere but good for most users.

High quality presentation software Keynote that does more than most need PowerPoint is possibly better but isn’t free

Good quality word processing with Pages, Word can do more but at a price and size 

 

I could continue but those are 3 free programs of many that do everything required for teaching at university level. 
None of my students that used Android phones were able to produce the same quality work without spending a considerable amount.

 

However for those familiar with Android stay with what you know it can probably do everything you want

Those who know iOS stay with what you know.

 

a new user should use the same platform as the majority of their friends as they can get help from them.

 

If you don’t have a support group iOS is the more user friendly offering

This is the first time an Apple user responded like this. 

 

The basic users feels intimidated when questioned as they don't know how to respond  - so their only wayout are insults and the like.

In fact,  I wanted to buy the iPhone 11, just to try out - but the responses from the users I inquired from,  put me off totally!

I agree with you. I am a Macbook Pro M1 user and I love it (not bought any non-Mac computer for 12 years at least). But I went from Samsung to Apple and bought an iPhone 14 pro max a few months ago. It has been very underwhelming, if I had the choice again I would go Samsung S23 ultra without a doubt.

The best thing about it is the battery - it lasts for ages, and it charges very quickly. But operationally? Meh.

No problem, I have taught basic phone security and usage and the android users found it more challenging. I was surprised at how little any of them really understood the basic principles. The few who had a more advanced knowledge were all apple users though none were really advanced, and these were university students in the top universities in the country.

 

The apps I highlighted were not a comprehensive list there are more, Numbers (excel is the Microsoft program) was easily able to do all my student data collection for attendance and grading, however there were a very few things I found easy to do in excel that were almost impossible in Numbers and I was given a teaching license for excel so I used it quite often.

 

Personally you couldn’t give me a top of the line Android phone with an equal value in cash and make me abandon the iOS ecosystem.

 

Could I survive with Android? of course, would I enjoy it? Absolutely not

 

Ask the same question in reverse to a died in the wool Android user and you will probably get the same answer.

 

which OS is better? They both do a good job,  Android enables more customisation (that few use), is less secure and the phones have a shorter support window.
Apple has infinitely better software integration, is more secure has about double the support of android but you can’t get cheap phones, if you ignore ROI.

 

Older apple phones command a higher price than an equivalent spec Android ones.

That is your opinion, apple has been shipping USB-C devices for the last 8 years on the MacBooks, 3 years on the iPad Pro, so yes Apple probably wouldn’t have changed yet without the EU ruling but it was coming and the EU rule change is a way for Apple to avoid the outcry from people with many lightening devices.

Exactly this. Apple's model is pretty much that you buy into their complete ecosystem. This offers some benefits but, for me, some show stopping drawbacks. I'm a software dev and have been for decades. My customers are typically PC/Microsoft/Windows/SQL Server/IIS. Macs and iPhones don't fit well with that model. Android does. Android also gives me a choice of 1000s of models, from the cheapest of the cheap right through to higher end and more expensive than Apple (so I don't know where all the "you can't afford it" rubbish comes from).

 

If you like iPhone then that's great, it doesn't affect me in any way. If you like Android then that's also great, it doesn't affect me in any way.

 

Also interesting is a YouTube channel such as Louis Rossman. If you think that Apple are all high end, well designed, well built, customer centric wonder machines then you are living far from reality. Memory chip on your phone gone bad 1 day after warranty expires? Tough, the repair bill will be as much as a new phone. Plastic welded keyboard on your high end Mac Book has broken... ouch. Soldered memory chips all over the place... BIOS written into that same memory... they don't do much that isn't designed to extract significantly more wedge from you as soon as anything goes wrong, which, but much of their design ethos, can be often.

Monopoly might be the wrong term, but the Apple ecosystem is far more closed, ringfenced etc than others. For some this can be a plus. For me, not.
