Pita Limjaroenrat, the leader of Thailand’s Move Forward party, known for his near-ascension to the position of Thailand’s 30th prime minister, has earned a place on Time magazine’s prestigious “TIME100 Next” list for the year 2023. He is the only Thai on this year’s list.

Pita stands as the sole Thai representative in this exclusive list compiled by the US-based magazine, recognising influential individuals who are shaping the future and defining the next generation of leadership worldwide. The list is categorised into five segments – Artists, Phenoms, Innovators, Advocates and Leaders.

Time’s Charlie Campbell highlighted Pita Limjaroenrat’s remarkable electoral victory and the bold agenda he pursued to achieve it. The Harvard-educated leader led the upstart Move Forward Party to secure an impressive 38% of the votes in Thailand’s polls held on May 14 this year. The party’s platform centered on promises to rein in the nation’s armed forces, reform the revered royal institution, abolish the contentious royal-defamation law and put an end to military conscription.

“But the byzantine nature of Thai democracy means Pita’s path to power has been blocked by an unelected Senate and a flurry of legal challenges,” wrote Campbell.

Think he could just have used the word 'stolen' instead

That is certainly going to upset those who stole his victory what a pity that western governments failed to condemn Thailand for not accepting the people’s choice of party to govern , did any of the uncles make it in the list of 800 !

Time (!) for authorities to ban this magazine/website.

It's probably now on the authorities list....right after Facebook.

The policy proposal Campbell is not reported as citing is that of ending monopolies and presumably oligarchies in the business world, as much a red cape to the establishment as softening lese-majeste punishments imo. Yes, I could read the actual Time article, but my brain can't process much more garbage today.

Pita Limjaroenrat announces his resignation as leader of Move Forward Party to allow his party to choose an MP to take the opposition leader post and to be the new party’s leader. Pita has suspended as an MP by a court pending a ruling on media share holding case.
