Unauthorized Radio Communication Equipment Dealer Arrested in Pattaya

On September 15, 2023, news broke regarding the apprehension of an illicit radio communication equipment dealer in the Pattaya area of Chonburi Province, Thailand, with goods valued at over 500,000 Baht.

 

The investigation, led by the "Phrapai Unit" of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), revealed that on September 11, authorities conducted a raid on a clandestine shop selling unauthorized radio communication equipment and GPS trackersm reported Siam Rath.

They confiscated more than 213 devices during the operation.

 

The raid targeted shops in the Bang Lamung district and on Sukhumvit Road in the Sriracha district of Chonburi Province. Mr. A and Mr. B (pseudonyms), identified as the shop owners and operators, were also arrested during the operation.

Mr. A and Mr. B confessed to selling radio communication equipment without the necessary permits. They face charges related to the unauthorized distribution of such devices.

 

The NBTC has been actively enforcing laws related to telecommunications and radio equipment, urging both vendors and users to understand the licensing requirements.

The public is encouraged to seek accurate information through the NBTC Call Center at 1200 (toll-free) to avoid unintentional legal violations, demonstrating a commitment to preventing such offenses.

From the photos it would appear that the equipment is red (CB) and black (radio ham/police) walkie-talkies, both of which are legal to sell in Thailand if the dealer has the required permissions from the NBTC.
