Checking engine oil with screw in dipstick

Featured Replies

Just to start; I don't have the manual so can't use that for info. When checking engine oil level on an engine with a screw in dipstick do you just push it in until it just contacts, or do you screw it totally in then unscrew it and check the level?

???? just push it in until it seats, is what I do for Honda and Benelli

You don't mention the vehicle manufacturer.  You really need the handbook to confirm. The most common requirement is NOT to screw the dipstick back in, but its not universally the case. E.g. Briggs & Stratton advise the dipsticks should be screwed in to take the oil level on their engines.
