Heavy rains caused an express train to derail from a flash flood on the way to Kaeng Luang-Ban Pin station, Phrae province. A few passengers suffered minor injuries and many trains were suspended.

At 5:48 AM, on September 30th, 2023, the express train number 13 Krungthep Aphiwat (Central Terminal Station)-Chiang Mai was derailed off the rail in Phrae province.

The entire train capsized off the railway due to what authorities said were continuous heavy rains for a few days.

Continuous rain for a few days... rail tracks should be able to cope with that?

Not strictly true. If you enlarge the photo, you can claerly see carriages towards the rear still standing on the tracks!

The tracks are/were fine; the ballast seems to have been shifted by the flood and that shifted the sleepers as well.  The result of that is derailment - minor with what looks to be only a couple of cars.

Minor?  The engine rolled onto it's side.

Rolled on it's side?  hmmm.  Don't see that.  But then I only see what is actually there.

It's in the linked report.  I saw more photos on facebook.  Engine on it's side.
