Thailand bank

Featured Replies

Hi. I have heard lately of people having their bank accounts closed while out of Thailand.

I originally came here on a retirement visa and have been with Bangkok bank for last ten years.

Last couple of years left Thailand and GF used ATM just to pay rent, never a problem.

Am leaving Thailand again soon but have now heard these rumors and am concerned,

some say they lost their money when account was closed.

Very grateful for any advice/info.

Thank you.

Where did you read that?

There are certain rules on bank accounts.

If after 1 year of no transactions on the accounts they become dormant.

The bank continues to take an annual fee from the account and once the remaining funds in the account are depleted the account will be closed.

If the account is active, funds going in and out there should be no problem.

Bangkok bank

If your account has been inactive for 12 months, you will be charged B50 per month and if it has under B2,000 and inactive for 12 months then the account will be cancelled.

Was just bar talk. Yes, they was probably away for more than a year and left unused.

Thank you for your reply.
