Drunk Van Driver Arrested With Multitude of Weapons in Bangkok

On October 6, officers led by Deputy Inspector Thitiwut Ronkaew of the Bang Yi Khan police made a significant arrest, seizing a multitude of weapons from a local man.

 

Piyachat, or Nui, 45, a professional van driver, was apprehended after being reported by vigilant locals. The arsenal, concealed within his Toyota HiAce van, included two shotguns, fifty shotgun shells, a 9mm Glock 26 pistol with one hundred rounds of ammunition, and a 7.5-inch knife, reported Siam Rath.

The arrest occurred amid an incident at a liquor store on Borommaratchachonnani Road, Arun Amarin, Bangkok Noi district, in the wee hours of October 5. Nui, inebriated, had inadvertently flaunted a handgun, inciting alarm among fellow patrons who promptly alerted the authorities. The subsequent search of his vehicle revealed the hidden cache of weapons.

 

Nui confessed to the police about his occupation as a van driver and admitted to displaying the gun on the table while drinking. He claimed ownership of all weapons found, assuring their legal procurement and registration.

However, some firearms acquired secondhand were yet to be legally transferred under his name. Consequently, Nui faces charges for unauthorized possession and public display of firearms and ammunition, in violation of the local law.

 

The swift action of Bang Yi Khan’s police was facilitated significantly by the alertness and prompt reporting by the local citizens.

If you do own a gun legally in Thailand , are you supposed to use it for home protection , or are you allowed to carry a gun?

With a permit carrying a firearm in public is permitted but carrying a firearm in plain view in public is prohibited.
