I wonder though if people actually "re-invent" themselves by running off to Thailand, not necessarily changing their name to Somtam , but actually trying to run away from a tragedy to change their life .

Yes and no. Attitudes can change.

I knew a guy like that in my youth. It turned out that he was bipolar.  Changed his name to "Joe" and got upset when I called him by the name I'd known him by for our school years.

A couple of coworkers hit their 60 and became trannies, both had their dicks removed and one killed himself after admitting that marching all of his troops across the Rubicon was a serious mistake.  He looked like Mrs. Doubtfire and took on a stripper's name.

Tragedy lol. Only the tragedy that are themselves

Yes. They are often overwhelmed with debt, running from family issues, socially disfunctional (jobless) and *teaching* is low barrier to entry. Can't attract partner in home country even when young so have zero social skills.

Really unhappy, overweight white women that come over here to teach. They last only a few years and seemingly get heavier with every passing month.

Worst are 40+ homosexuals that come over here and come out of the closet. Sooooooo fabulous and everyone must know especially their young teen boy students. Ugh ????

Say what you will about the 65yo totally skint loser on Pattaya beach road in nylon shorts, Chang singlet and flip flops but it's an honest lifestyle.

So which one are you?

I am sure there are some stories out there from people under witness protection. New name, new life, no connection whatsoever with their past. I wonder how often that is successful.

With Krishna it obviously didn't work when he was working in the same job as before.

This forum really has sunk to a new low.

Are there any real people, who actually live in Thailand, still posting on this forum?

So you must be Burmese, right? Or you just bait posting from somewhere else....

Where do you get this stuff from (I did white <deleted>, but they censored it, this forum is rated PG9)? Perhaps you  should stop smoking what you smoke.... not good to you.

There's one who likes to remind you of your prognostications about the crashing Australian dollar.

Booze is not therapy that can cure issues, neither are drugs or any religious freaky dynamics.

Best to consult a reliable psychiatrist that can make drastic positive changes that can improve the patient's existence. Many people in Thailand, locals or farangs, could take this path.

I had a year off, travelling around the world, hardest thing was getting my brain back into work, career path etc, because i didn't really care, so Ben is probably hating work even more than before

Why is the default position of the intolerant that some of us couldn't attract a partner in home country? Most of us did and came to regret that we did.

I wish I hadn't been able to attract a western partner as I'd have had a happier life.

Excellent point. A wife and de facto in Australia have cost me far more than my Thai GF ever has, both financially and emotionally.

90 days meditation

270 days muay thai

You should be mentally and physically fit after that

270 days of being kicked and punched in the head certainly puts one's feet on the path of intellectual greatness.
