savannakhet now require bank statement (400k) for 1 year multi visa (non-O marriage or Thai family)

Is that a 1 year visa? I was on the spot, so just went with what he recommended, the single entry.

I'm guessing it would also require bank statements, since he didn't recommend it. I was speaking Thai with him and he was being friendly, no communication barrier, and he I think he would have said something.

A double entry would be good for 180 days with one border bounce required after the first 90 days. Many years ago ,(  in the 80's ) this double entry visa was issued very frequently at the Penang consulate.

Nebulous? Unclear how? I'm guessing the details in sav will be the same as they are in Vientiane.

The officer at the desk was crystal clear. Want a multi? Need bank statement showing 400k.

Money doesn't need to be seasoned when applying for a Non-O visa. It does need to ve seasoned when applying for an extension.

What the OP reports would be in line with literally any other Thai consulate or embassy that issues this visa. A big change for Savannakhet if true, but it cannot be dismissed out of hand.

what multi entry?

tourist?

marriage?

not clear.

if tourist multi entry how can he open bank account and put money in as a tourist

i am rusty about visas but seems op is not clear

It's clear from the OP that he refers to the one year multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage.

People who aren't residents of Laos cannot apply for a multi-entry tourist visa there anyway.

I know there will be people saying:

"Communication barrier, you misunderstood!"

I speak Thai well, been here over 10 years.

"You must have pissed him off or been disrespectful!"

Nah. We joked about how his job will get easier.

"You don't know what you're talking about"

Just telling you what happened. I was first in savannakhet 10 years ago. This is my 4th time getting this visa. Except today, I couldn't.

Do what you will with this info, I isn't wish I had had it last Friday before getting the 13 hour bus from Pattaya. 👍

Strange theirs no mention of it on their website..........

then he should state that

there are many multi entries and if people too lazy to bother giving proper info then they should not write.

as far as i know if applying for marriage visa ( not multi entry) then there is no need for any money.

only if you plan to stay here full time do you need the 400k

and i understand very well

The only multi entry that people go to savannakhet for that could require 400k on the bank is the non-O marriage or child visa. I'll edit the OP just in case anyone else is confused too.

Expand

400K would be for marriage.

That you are confused / don't understand it isn't the OP's fault

True. Non 'O' for tourists?? Had to be for either marriage, or retirement. And the former seems right, as this is the funds needed for an extension in Thailand. - I presume, if they offer(ed) visas for retirement, they'd want to see 800,000 baht in the bank?

Yes it does, look at the fees...

There is one fee listed - single entry - did you provide wrong link?
