Economy Suan Dusit Poll: Most Thais Worry About Economic Insecurity
File photo for reference only A recent Suan Dusit Poll has highlighted significant economic concerns among Thai citizens, revealing that nearly half of respondents feel their savings would not sustain them for even a month without income. The poll, conducted by Suan Dusit University from May 6-9, surveyed 1,229 people nationwide using online and field methods, with results released on Sunday. Widespread Economic Anxiety The survey shows a striking 92.19% of respondents feeling insecure about Thailand's economic situation. Among them, 51.59% are somewhat concerned, while 40.60% express deep worry. Savings Insufficiency The financial fragility is stark, with 48.32% of respondents indicating that their emergency savings wouldn't last a month without new income. Another 35.24% believe their savings could stretch to one to three months, and only 6.59% think they could endure more than six months. Major Economic Concerns Respondents identified rising consumer goods prices (73.23%), escalating living costs (67.36%), and increasing household debt (65.58%) as their top financial worries. Confidence in Government's Economic Policies Regarding government handling of economic impacts from the US-China trade war, 76.06% of respondents voiced a lack of confidence, with only 23.94% maintaining trust in the government's economic strategies. Public Coping Strategies To manage their economic challenges, the top three coping strategies among Thai citizens are: Reducing spending on non-essential items (77.37%) Avoiding new debt (63.96%) Increasing personal savings (50.80%) The Suan Dusit Poll underscores the urgent need for economic stability and support strategies as a significant number of Thais express concern over their financial resilience in uncertain economic conditions. The findings call for attention to bolstering social safety nets and trust in governmental economic policies. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Nation 2025-05-13 -

Australian Aged Pension
Thanks for all the important points above. Can I please suggest a small correction. Copied from above: "24-Month Waiting Period: After you start receiving your Age Pension in Australia, there's a 24-month period before it becomes portable outside Australia". This is not correct. Correct information: "The 24 months period starts from the day the person arrived back in Australia (taken from online immigration / passport in/out records). Meaning that the 24 months DOESN'T start from the day the person lodged their application for the the OAP. And meaning that the 24 months DOESN'T doesn't start from the day the OAP was approved. -
