Popular Post webfact
On November 10, 2023, under the directive of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, Police General Tosak Sukvimol, and Deputy Police Chief Surachate Hakparn, a successful operation led by the Immigration Bureau's investigative teams led to the apprehension of a Chinese fugitive at an airport in Thailand. This arrest was the culmination of intensified security measures and cross-national cooperation in combatting international crime, reported Siam Rath. The operation, coordinated by Pol. Maj. Gen. Prasat Kemmaprasit, Deputy Chief of Immigration Bureau Division 2, and acting Chief of Division 1, alongside Pol. Lt. Col. Rapeepat Utsaha, Deputy Chief of Division 1, was informed by Pol. Lt. Col. Kachaphon Pathumang of the Division 1 investigative unit. The suspect, under a pseudonym "Zheng He", was wanted in China for illegal electronic waste trade, involving unauthorized sales and disposal to third countries and hiding relevant information from authorities. Picture: Siam Rath The National Police Office's Foreign Affairs Division had received a cooperation request from the People's Republic of China in August 2023 regarding Chinese nationals involved in these crimes. Zheng He, having fled China, had been residing in Bangkok, a city with a significant Chinese population. Upon learning of his whereabouts, the Immigration Office revoked his temporary residency and initiated a search. On November 9, 2023, the Immigration Bureau's investigative team, after receiving information from Division 2's crime suppression unit, discovered Zheng He attempting to flee Thailand using a different passport. His apprehension at the airport highlights the effective collaboration between Thai and Chinese authorities and the Immigration Office, leading to a significant arrest in the fight against international crime. Zheng He faces deportation to China for legal prosecution.
