Chinese top visa holder summoned and fined over distorted claims about Bangkok’s notorious Nana

Another person without a life calling themselves an 'Influencer'. Waste of space and time. Deprive her of oxygen and let her float off to the world she deserves.

She has what she wanted. More publicity for free. Should have ignored her.

faced possible deportation after being summoned over a Tik Tok video that distorted the facts about Bangkok’s vibrant Soi Nana nightlife area.

It's a weird world when a Chinese woman visits Nana, then makes negative comments.

If she did the same in China she would go missing.

People just can't help themselves, they need to antagonize .

I'll probably get nasty replies from the many antagonizers we have here.

Correct but potentially she faces deportation and even blacklisting!

I haver been working for many years in China and one thing that is standing out it that Chinese just not thinking ahead.

- You go to Nana Plaza you expect that some folks will introduce themselfes as "Ben Dover" and asking for a price...

- You think as Blogger you are as protected as a paparazzi. Well, nope. You open your gob you should choose the right wording but therefore you need the capability to think ahead..

- she sold something without work permit? Som Nam Na, forgotten to think ahead once again..

Good example if she get sent home that an elite visa is only for people who deserve it and are beneficial for the country, but it will not protect you more from deportation than a 30 days visa on arrival..

From the attached article:

"The legal action against Ms Wang has stirred controversy, especially as it appears to signal a departure from the typical response to negative portrayals of the country.

Senior police officials explicitly stated that the cause for the legal action was the production and distribution of content deemed harmful to Thailand’s image abroad."

Correct, it seems she upset the 'wrong' people and they have gone completely over the top!

The RTP could have hushed this up and it would have gone away, like when bad cops get transferred to inactive posts.

Now in China everyone knows what happens when you criticize Thailand, I bet TAT are real happy?

Perhaps the message they're sending is that an Elite Visa doesn't allow you to open a shop, even an online shop. For that you need to register a business and get the proper visa and a work permit.

Same with online gambling sites, pirate streaming sites, hooker sites, etc.

Tourists need not worry, but she's hardly a tourist...

Perhaps you are correct,I agree she is not a tourist,  but many people do it and do not get caught, in fact if this woman hadn't live-streamed this video, brought attention to herself she would not have been caught?

But your comment tourists need not worry, I disagree. If an ordinary tourist on say a 30 day visa does the same thing this woman did, express their opinion about Nana Plaza in a derogatory manner with a video, then posts it on tik tok or You Tube or whatever, it gets noticed and the RTP pick up on it, knowing the defamation laws in Thailand, don't you think they would do something?

In the attached article it states "The crackdown and warning to other foreigners in Thailand using social media to criticise the kingdom and damage its reputation is a stark one and sends a chilling message"

It seems the land that the naughty places of the old soi Nana sat on was sold in 2014 and all the hooker places closed in the years that followed.

Yes, the (Nana Plaza) land was sold to the current owners but the "hooker places"  did not all close, they're still there.

Annie's was never in the Plaza, it was in the Rajah Hotel car park further down Soi 4 and relocated to Soi 7/1.

"...knowing the defamation laws in Thailand, don't you think they would do something?"

Clearly, you do not know the defamation laws.   No, they would not be able to do anything, as in this case, she was not charged with defamation.

Neither Thailand as a country, nor it's government as an entity, can be defamed under the defamation laws and any person doing so person cannot be charged with defamation.  If they're dong something else that is illegal maybe they should watch out, if they're not, they have free rein.

Well, it's not the best place for single women and female tourists to go for a night out, that is for sure.

It is primarily geared toward males and male adult entertainment.

To the idiots on here who keep posting confused emojis, what is not clear in the above statement?

It is bloody annoying when some are posting confused emojis for no apparent reason or is it beyond the comprehension of some posters, that I said that Nana Plaza is not the best choice for females to go on a night out?

It is an adult male entertainment zone. What is confusing about that?

Or are we just sheep on here and hit the confused button because somebody else did?

You clearly don't understand China. The woman represents the majority there. Period. There are no "Nanas" because prostitution is illegal.

That is what is so freaking brain dead about this. Thailands first response is the heavy handed vindictive approach so dear to the Thai PuYai mentality. Only confirming to her fans and many more potential Chinese tourists, Thailand is an unsafe place to visit. That's a winner.

How on earth can the reaction of the RTP do more damage pray tell?? It's been done hasn't it by her? Apart from anything else, wouldn't you say anyone who stands among an international crowd in a foreign country, decrying publicly the moral values, an offence back home undoubtedly, is beyond arrogant!

What makes you claim that?  Her case is done and she has been charged and fined.   If she was facing deportation she would be in custody with her visa cancelled and that has not happened.

In reality she had committed the offence of working without a work permit, in contravention of her visa's conditions.

There is a huge amount of prostitution in China.

Everybody and their dog is an influencer today!

Send her back to that lovely country call China.

She did not provide any objective evidence of ladies being harmed in Nana.

Now, if you are a man, yes, your money will be harmed....5555.

The availability of prostitutes in China will be mainly under the radar - where it exists - and for foreigners will come a risk of deportation or visa cancellation, unless all can be conducted under the radar. Some regions have been swept clean(er) under Xi in recent years (the capitals) and others have escaped that.  People who live there speak of more liberal times as recently as 6-7 years ago... and "Wang" exemplifies that puritanism.

What remains is nothing compared to what was there before.  The old Nana area (I'm not limiting myself to the plaza) was far more of a prostitution zone than the current Soi Cowboy, which is also only a shadow of what it was.    My point is that the area is just another tourist stop and no longer deserves to be described as "notorious".

No, I was comparing two areas in close proximity on Sukhumvit.  I don't even know where the Islamic area is.  I don't get to Bangkok that often.  I was commenting on the difference between Nana in 2010 and Nana in 2022, the years of my last two visits to Bangkok.

There are real dullards posting here with limited reading skills but the confused emoji is mainly just manifestation of trolling behavior.

In this case  just perhaps they won't take the time to communicate openly and resort to this passive-aggression.

If "Nana Plaza is not the best choice for females to go on a night out?" where should they go after flying maybe halfway around the world when BKK is known for this kind of thing. A proper Jazz club or bar offering nearly the same experience as anywhere?

It is part of some ladies completely mainstream travel experience  to do something a little naughty they wouldn't want to or cannot do in their home country. From what I have personally witnessed and friends+relative tourists I accompanied I don't think there is anything unsafe about females going out in NEP at all.

I agree,

I had my family here earlier this year including my ex wife, sister and niece and they all wanted to see it.

At breakfast the following day they were all adding up how much they had spent, which was plenty! , buying drinks in the bars for those asking etc. In fact, all of them spent more in that one night in Nana than any other night in a three country tour of Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Their comments were that they were glad of the experience and now knew what they were talking about should anybody mention Nana Plaza in The UK.

It obviously wouldn't be something they would do on a regular basis on a trip to Thailand.

In essence, it was a bit of fun and a laugh.

Moving on from that, my comments were mainly aimed at the Chinese influencer, who dressed provactively and then slagged off tourists who approached her in Nana Plaza red light district. in that location, what did she honestly expect?

I was pointing out if she wanted a chilled night with no hassles from men then Nana Plaza wasn't probably the best choice. I think she sought the place out deliberately.

I believe she just did it for hits and publicity online as that is where these so called ' influencers ' derive their income, with their ' likes and shares and follows '
