Quiet walks around Chantaburi . . ?

Recommended Posts

We lived in Ban Pang, (Li-Ban Hong area in Lamphun) for a year or two and we still visit. Then I walked most days around the tracks, (often in the jungle), to the foothills and up the mountains when I can. Last week I managed 19,000 steps up to a JD but at 76 with AF, that's about my limit!

I enjoy long walks (without trippers please), and wonder if anyone has ideas about routes to walk, close to Chantaburi if possible?

I was been living in Chanthaburi ten years ago. There are some places and routes for a walk.  Khao laem Sing Forest Park is a nice place.. Close to the beach. I Don’t know now the situation but..Be careful with monkeys. Google it. 👍

There are many kilometers of nicely paved roads in this system. Plenty of joggers, bicyclists, and the occasional soi vermin are mostly polite, being used to the traffic (but I would still recommend a "walking" stick).

Tarteso - thanks muchly - I know the Forest Park and its lovely. But I was hoping for somewhere more remote with mountains and jungle . . . . Re. the monkeys  -tell me about it ! Was fishing on a pier off that 'Island' a few years ago - due to drive Lamphun the next day - and a monkey, in a crowd that had been jumping off the trees into the sea to swim, slipped from the tree and landed on my Vigo windscreen . . . !

He was fine but the glass wasn't LOL

Happy - thanks. I live on Siriporn 2 so that's just down the road from me - I ride there many times, along the canal (flood relief) and then into the old area past the Cathedral - it's great. But I want to be on jungle tracks. BTW there's a private Karaoke/Shop at the Siriporn end of the canal with great Folks. Good for a beer and some chat.

Adventure ? I guess it'll be at Soi Dao which is a drive away. Mai pen lai ATB

Thanks Guys for replies

Khao Soi Dao Waterfall, well worth the drive.  There are several levels you can trek up to.  It is gorgeous, and normally not too many people above the first couple levels.  Will be getting a little less water this time of year, but nice cool weather.

Some neat resorts to stay at nearby on the Eastern side of the ridge.  If you like playing golf, the Chatrium Golf resort would be a good place to base your exploration of the area, this is where we stayed when we visited.  They had bicycles to borrow and ride around the substantially large property.  https://maps.app.goo.gl/q4EvGXRsmUxbpRY79

You can hire a guide to take you to this spot on the Southern part of Soi Dao...  We've been meaning to try this out.  They allow you to camp overnight under the massive boulders.  This is the best time of year to go apparently.  Probably have to book ahead though.  Zoom in on google maps in satellite view and you can see the boulders.

Thanks for the idea N8.

I might give that a go but I won't be camping up there !.

Soi Dao only 70 km from me at Chan but I'd probably travel up and get the lie of the land, stay locally, and walk the next day.

You can drive on the 3391 to the Waterfall, park and trek from there?

Thanks again, Roger

The sunrise is apparently incredible from the boulder campsite, but understand not wanting to camp in the jungle!  According to the trail reports I've read, the trek to this spot is intense enough to really require staying overnight.  Girlfriend will be researching this for us soon to try and plan another trip over there and attempt this.

Yes, 3391 gets you to the trailhead going up to the waterfalls.  You will likely have to pay to get into the national park area.  I can't remember if I had to pay farang price or if I got away with showing my work permit to pay Thai price.  There were some smaller loop 'nature' trails there as well, we did not walk on them though.

N8 thanks. I'm going to see what I can find there . . . .

To my great surprise, the Missis had a burst of enthusiasm and said she would come with me to Soi Dao, (to 'play water' ) and that's fine - we'll stay a night or two somewhere. But I'll be walking alone.

I have tried to walk up Khao Kitcahakut but they don't seem to allow it, even off season. You have to take the tourist truck and it's quite busy at the top which is not for me. Have you ever tried KK ?
