Non Immigrant O Retirement Extension (income method).

Featured Replies

Asking for a friend.

He needs to get his paperwork in order for a Non O Retirement extension based on monthly income. He forgot all about it and his extension expires on Tuesday next week!!

If he doesn't get the paperwork in order by Tuesday, can he ask for a 30 day extension (B1,900) to get his affairs in order?

Thanks

Firstly he cannot obtain a 30 day extension.

Second he will need to show 12 months of monthly transfers of 65k.

Even if his embassy provides "income letter" that will not happen by next week.

Seems need to exit Thailand and start over

No, as you can only apply for a 30-day extension when having entered Thailand Visa Exempt or on a Tourist Visa.

When he cannot get hold of the required evidence of 12 monthly income transfers by Tuesday, he will have to exit Thailand latest on Tuesday, and start the whole process from scratch again.

Note: If he is officially married to a Thai national there is an escape road.  Because if that would be the case he could apply for a 60-day extension of stay for reason of visiting his wife, as that an always be done once per entry irrespective of how you entered Thailand (VisaExempt or Tourist Visa) as well as when you are staying on a 1-year extension of a Non Imm O Visa (be it for Retirement or Marriage).

OK

Many thanks to you both. I will pass these messages on to him!

2 years ago my Bank Paperwork was incorrect and I was told to revisit the International branch and get it sorted out. Immigration gave me a 30 day extension for 1900 baht to sort it out and I did so in about 3 days

If he does have to go to a RTE for a new Non Immigrant O retirement visa, which one would you suggest for least hassle and mimimal paperwork?

He has over B800k in a Thai bank and can show this to the RTE in his bank book. Even get a bank letter confirming this before departure.

Is insurance or a police report needed?

Savannakhet, Phnom Penh, KL or Penang?

If he has over 800k in a Thai bank then why is he bothering with the income method. As long as the money has been in there 3 months I think then all he needs to show is a bank letter confirming this and tell immigration he wants to change to money in the bank method.

Again  many thanks to all who replied.

I think the B800k wasn't in long enough, hence the method route.

I will pass these messages on to him.

Any recommendations on an embassy nearby to get a new Non Imm O visa?

What nationality?

Where does he live?

Asking because income letter might be obtained by some (honorary) consulates on a personal visit same day.

US citizen in Bangkok.

He is resigning himself to going to a RTE abroad on Tuesday.
