Good gastroenterologist in Udon or Kohn Kean?

Featured Replies

Was just wondering if anyone might know of a good doctor in this field.

My wife has been experiencing issues for a couple of years. I won't go into all the details, but we have tried lots of different herbal remedies in addition to the advice and testing of local doctors. Long story short, she has had issues stemming from an H Pylori infection. Her indigestion is next level, and she won't stop burping. She gets constant stomach aches after eating.

Local doctor at the 'army hospital' has checked and confirmed H Pylori previously and has done a gastroscopy. They found nothing serious in her stomach apart from an ulcer. They are saying she has IBS.

I would like to take her to see a real gastro doctor though. The current doctor is a general GP. She has always refused to go anywhere else as she is part of some cheap insurance scheme I'm not exactly sure what ti is but the army hospital charges nothing, or very little. It worries me that they might not be the most proficient though.

I went around a few hospitals today asking the reception staff/international staff if they has a gastro doctor who might be considered as having the best reputation. None of them seemed to know.

I have now convinced her to go see a real gastro doc at another hospital (I have been nagging about it daily/weekly for ages). Any ideas on a good doctor anywhere in the isarn region? WIlling to travel, although closer to Udon the better.

Appreciate it

Must say I am puzzled by "They found nothing serious in her stomach apart from an ulcer."  An ulcer is serious, and would certainly account for burping, pain after eating etc.

Did she have a repeat endoscopy after treatment for the ulcer?

And repeat testing to ensure the h. pylori was eradicated?

The symptoms your wife is suffering from sound similar to what I suffered from for some time. Unfortunately, the medical profession was unable to help me. In the end I went to the naturopath / functional medicine route and if turned out I had SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) which is a condition which medical professionals outside the USA have limited awareness of, even gastroenterologists. It's a tricky one to resolve as there is no proven protocol - so you can't just take a medicine or two or three. I'd recommend you look into SIBO online and if the symptoms are a match for what your wife is suffering, consider looking for a functional medicine doctor. I honestly have no idea whether Thailand even has these but I am sure Sheryl would know about.

It sounds counterintuitive but one way to resolve SIBO is with a carnivore diet i.e. strictly eating animal-only products for a period and excluding all sugars and carbs. The bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine is fed by fermentable carbs and when you eliminate those from your diet entirely, there is nothing for the bacteria to consume and they die. A carnivore diet also allows your digestion system to settle down and for inflammation to resolve. This is not a long-term diet but 30 - 60 days should resolve most SIBO cases. There is a lot on YouTube about this (from real doctors).
