The Constitutional Court is set to deliver its verdict in January 24 regarding the political future of the former Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat.

He is accused of holding a stake in a media company, in violation of the election law, when he registered his candidacy in the May general election. The Election Commission (EC) brought the case before the court, seeking to strip Pita of his status as an MP.

Arriving at the court today to give his final testimony, Pita was accompanied by his lawyers and two bags of material evidence.

“I am ready to answer any questions raised by members of the Election Commission (EC) in today’s hearing,” he said.

EC Secretary-General Sawaeng Boonmee represented the EC at the hearing.

The court, in its statement issued after the hearing, said that the ruling will be given at 2pm on January 24.

After the hearing, Pita told reporters that he was pleased to have had the chance to tell his side of the story to the court for the first time.

THE CONSTITUTIONAL Court will hand down its verdict on a petition the Election Commission filed against former Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat over holding 00.0035% shares in non-operating ITV channel on Jan. 24, 2024, Matichon newspaper said today (Dec. 20).

The court had ordered Pita to stop performing as MP on July 19 pending a ruling on the polling agency’s petition over holding the tiny fragment of the non-operating channel.

If found to have applied to run as an MP while holding shares in a media business, even though ITV stopped broadcasting a long time ago,  he could lose his MP status.

Pita has submitted his explanation in this case while the court has examined three witnesses and aside from Pita himself the other two are the polling agency’s secretary-general Sawang Boonmee and ITV executive director Kim Siritaweechai.

His screwed. The old guard will not want a competent politician running against them they will now use the courts to remove him. Best thing for him to do is return to.america and focus on his business and let someone else run maybe serving as an advisor on the quiet. Altho right everyone was telling him to drop 112 because he did not have the numbers to push through the change.

He inherited these shares and was not able to sell them due to the company being out of business .

This is false. The company was still registered and filing its papers, but it was not broadcasting or active in any meaningful way.

Without wishing to prejudice the outcome, my understanding is that trading in the shares had been suspended years ago, so Pita was unable to dispose of them.

To disqualify him on the grounds he had shares in this company seems against natural justice and to be entirely politically motivated. I look forward to the court making the right decision.

Don't hold your breath re right decision.
