Crime Grandson in Mental Health Crisis Takes Bedridden Grandfather Hostage in Khon Kaen
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Panic gripped a community in Ban Phai district of Khon Kaen province on 13 May, after a 30-year-old man in the midst of a psychiatric crisis took his bedridden grandfather hostage, holding him at knifepoint for over half an hour. At around 11:00, the Ban Phai Police Station’s 191 emergency centre received a distress call from residents of Sumnamai Community, Soi 3, Mittraphap Road. Locals reported that a man had taken an elderly relative hostage inside a private residence. Police chief Colonel Prachayamas Chaisura responded swiftly to the scene with a team comprising investigators, suppression officers and local administrative officials. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Sornchai 30, armed with a 10cm knife, straddling his 70-year-old grandfather, Mr. Hiew, who is a bedridden patient. Witnesses described the situation as tense, with Mr. Sornchai threatening to stab the elderly man while appearing detached from reality. Despite repeated pleas from officers and neighbours, Mr. Sornchai remained unresponsive, murmuring that he missed his mother, who works in another province. Police and community members spent over 30 minutes calmly negotiating with the suspect, offering him water and attempting to soothe him. Eventually, Mr. Sornchai calmed down, surrendered the knife, and allowed officers to safely take him into custody. He was promptly transferred to Ban Phai Hospital for psychiatric evaluation and treatment. Colonel Prachayamas confirmed that the suspect has a history of mental illness and is believed to have suffered a breakdown due to the combined effects of stress and possible medication non-compliance. Mr. Sornchai reportedly works in floral design and had recently been overwhelmed with a high workload. Authorities are continuing to assess his mental health and are reviewing measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and Mr. Hiew is safe and receiving care. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-05-14. -

Pattani Bomb Attack on Paramilitary Truck Injures Two Soldiers
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Tensions have again escalated in the restive southern province after an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a military truck on the afternoon of 13 May, leaving two paramilitary rangers injured. The incident occurred at approximately 13:00 near a U-turn in the Ban To Tita area, Yaring District, along Highway 42 between Pattani and Narathiwat. The vehicle, belonging to the 44th Ranger Regiment Task Force, sustained damage, with shattered side windows and other blast-related impacts. Authorities from Yaring Police Station reported that the perpetrators remain unidentified, with no group yet claiming responsibility for the attack. The bombing took place just before the entrance to Border Patrol Police Camp 444, a known security checkpoint. Eyewitnesses noted a police special operations unit vehicle from Su-ngai Padi Police Station was passing the scene at the time of the explosion. The officers’ pickup truck was damaged by shrapnel, though none of the personnel were harmed. Investigators examined the scene for evidence as security forces tighten control in the area to prevent further incidents. The motive behind the bombing remains under investigation. New house - a few questions for the electrical system
It is certainly possible to see the suggested costs. However it is impossible to know the quality of the work. You can only have an idea if you can see other installations done by the company and know the qualifications of the individuals doing the work. The pricing has too little information to give a correct reply. Missing items include; the area where the job will be done, the distance from the installer to the property, the projected time for the work, the number of times the installers will attend. That said the prices do seem to me to be on the high side but Crossy may have a different opinion. Also depending on where the project is I may be able to give you the contact details of a trained professional electrician who can give you a second quote.
