Anthroscopy knees

Anyone had this surgery ?

 

I have had a right knee pain since starting boxing , I think it was the jumping skipping rope and squats etc 

It seems in the right leg in the right side of the knee inside if that makes sense 

I told another guy he said a Anthroscopy can fix it 

 

It doesn't appear to be broken just a little paper n when I stand up ,I can't do body squats anymore 

 

 this Anthroscopy?

Get yourself in a hospital for proper diagnosis before asking about a surgery you don't know you need. Drinking buddies are not good medical advisors...

You should be asking a Doctor ,not Aseannow ,take it easy you're doing too much

Many people have had it but there us no reason to think you need it.

See an ortho. You'll need a physical exam and possibly an Xray.

Might just be tendinitis commonly occurs when new ir repetiyive activities strain muscles and tendons. ....and does not requirw surgery of any sort.

You would need an MRI before proceeding to surgery, as knee pain can also be caused by cartilage loss.

I had an arthroscopy way back in 2006. The surgeon said the most important part of my recovery was not the operation, but the rehab afterwards.

X'rays do not necessarily show tissue damage.

Depends what the problem is..... Normally you'd have imaging done first. 

I suffer a bit of osteoarthritis in one knee. I have a daughter who is a doctor and her advice was to stay away from arthroscopy - likely no long term benfit.

Osteoarthritis usually is improved with exercise.

Could be a torn/worn meniscus, mine is torn, i cancelled an op and it settled down, that was 10 years ago, still ok

I was scheduled for a full knee replacement 5 months ago, and my wife suggested I try Sesamin treatment. I will just have to settle down a bit on these skipping rope , I am there to do boxing training I have no idea why in these boxing group classes they make everyone do jump squats , 

There is a "clicking " sound from that knee too ,

The problem with going to a doctor is they hear you have private health insurance and suddenly you need a operation

Ask a doctor who specializes in knees.

If it causes an issue then stop it, simples. As for Ops yes I've cancelled 2 ops before, injuries can settle down they did with me

I have had 2 knee surgeries.  Yours sure sounds like a torn meniscus.  In the west it is Arthroscopic and outpatient.

Takes about 6 weeks to feeling much better.  Do some therapy after surgery.

 

If you have it here,  I bet they will want unnecessary 2 days in the hospital after.

 

Get MRI to confirm.

I had my meniscus repaired and ACL reconstructed by Dr Panya at Bumrungrad. He did a good job.

I have had chronic osteoarthritis of the lower spine for at least 30 years. I keep it mobilized by a daily stretching routine. I used to medicate with anti-inflammatories as well, no longer do so.

It could just as easily be tendonitis. Common when somebody suddenly takes up an activity that works muscles not previously much used.

 

I developed pain in the exact spot described by OP after (unwisely, for me) attending a "boot camp" for weight loss and fitness. Was on crutches for 6 weeks as a result (which of course totally undid the value of the boot camp!).  Readily diagnosed with just an Xray and physical exam and fully resolved with rest, time  and NSAIDs.

 

I would not jump to something like torn meniscus or osteoarthritis from the history given.

I stepped down from a bus with a heavy suitcase and twisted my knee.

So painful that night that I could not sleep.

 

I had an MRI at a well known private hospital in Pattaya, it indicated both meniscus (front and back) torn or worn.

The doctor said a repair would cost about 230,000 baht for a one hour repair operation using laparoscopy.

I asked why so expensive, he said each stitch cost about 12,000 baht?

I asked how they would do it – he made the motion of one arm lapping over the other arm.

Does not seem valid for a soft rubbery material in a tight smooth joint. I mean does it coalesce into one homogenous piece?

I lost confidence with those two replies.

 

Further loss of confidence, when I received the MRI report later, there was no classification of the tears, as should be provided. There are 3 Grades of tear. Grades 1 and 2 are not considered serious.

 

Fortunately, for me over a period of some months, the knee is no longer painful, maybe the tear was on the outside where a blood supply can heal. Further in, limited blood supply and limited healing.

 

I researched this issue about a year ago.

For me, it came across that laparoscopy is only worth it if you have some sort of debris in the joint that needs removal.

I met someone who has had two repairs of tear; he said they only lasted about six months.

More than likely it'll resolve itself. You might also consult a physical therapist.

Yes I might see a physiotherapist, or someone specific to knees.

 

I think as Sheryl said I'm not used to this jumping with a skipping rope ,it's a group boxing class so everyone grabs a skipping rope and skips hur a few minutes, so I don't want to just stand there with everyone looking at me but if it gets worse I may have to "skip" the skipping part 

 

I will see how it goes ,I don't want to go in for day surgery if your can help it 

I will try the Voltaren cream for awhile and see the physio

 

It must be torn ,it's not massive pain ,just a dull aching type pain in those indent areas inside the knee .

 

May I ask has anyone used those knee support things that wrap around the knee?

Some are very expensive,I'm not sure the difference ?

 

I'm thinking of a combination of Voltaren cream and then the knee support wrap on 

 

It's just a nuisance to have because I want to start boxing and martial arts again 

 

Obviously my age I guess ,geez I hate getting old

I didn't know about the "grades"

Whatever else you do, lay off the activities that trigger the pain until you have healed. Listen to your body.

 

When I had my issue I tried knee supports, didn't seem to make much difference that I recall.

 

If you wan to see a knee specialist Dr. Panya at Bumrungrad is tops. And will not  recommend unnecessary treatments.

Good idea. There's a lot you can do to prevent and fix knee problems with strengthening, stretching, and massage. That's what I do, and I manage to do a lot despite all the wear & tear over many years. Bob & Brad, among others, on youtube have suggestions you might try.

Forget it. Focus on strength training for functional fitness and keeping your cardiovascular system in good shape. Learn how to exercise w/o putting so much stress on your joints. A number of specific techniques work well for doing just that.

I’m not much of a squatter myself but I just tried and no, there was no pain. I go to the gym every other day and do the usual treadmill, stepper etc and also go cycling around the 24km bike lane at SV airport and no pain at all.
