Accident Storm Capsizes Fishing Boat in Reservoir, Younger Brother Survives, Elder Brother Drowns
Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A sudden storm caused a fishing boat to capsize in a reservoir in Chachoengsao province on the afternoon of 21 June, claiming the life of a 40-year-old man while his younger brother miraculously survived. The incident occurred at approximately 16:30, at the Khlong Siyad Reservoir in Moo 2, Tha Takiap subdistrict, Tha Takiap district, Chachoengsao. Local authorities, including district officials and rescue volunteers from Phanom and community-based civil defence teams, were immediately dispatched to the scene after villagers reported a boat had overturned. Upon arrival, rescue personnel launched boats to search the reservoir. Initial reports confirmed that one man, identified as Mr. Worakrit, had managed to swim ashore, while his brother, Mr. Somphot aged 40, had gone missing beneath the water. According to Mr. Worakrit, both men had travelled from Sri Maha Pho district in Prachinburi province for a day of fishing at the reservoir. On their way back to shore, they were caught in a sudden downpour accompanied by strong winds and heavy waves that overturned their small fishing boat. “I threw a water container to my brother so he could hold onto it,” Worakrit recounted. “I grabbed another one and managed to make it to shore. But he didn’t follow. I called out for help from people fishing along the banks.” At approximately 17:40, rescue teams recovered Mr. Somphot’s body floating near the reservoir’s edge, about 500 metres from the site of the capsize. Authorities have urged the public to monitor weather forecasts closely before venturing out onto bodies of water. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-06-23 -

Middle East Pentagon: ‘Bold and Brilliant’ Operation That Crippled Iran’s Nuclear Infrastructure
Adapted from NY Times: But neither Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth nor Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, could immediately say whether Iran still retained the ability to make a nuclear weapon. Mr. Hegseth repeated President Trump’s assertion from the previous night that the nuclear sites had been “obliterated.” General Caine did not. -

Report Bangkok Promotes 'White Vests' to Combat Drugs
Bangkok authorities team up to launch 'White Vest' initiative, enhancing urban safety and drug awareness On Saturday, 21st June 2025, Deputy Governor Sunthorn Sunchart led the "White Vests for Safe and Drug-Free Zones" initiative, collaborating with Amnat Laokoti from Bangkok's Narcotics Control Office. Hundreds of motorbike taxi riders and delivery drivers gathered at Din Daeng to celebrate World Drug Day on 26th June by pledging against drug involvement and advocating for a safer capital. The initiative, supported by over 700 participants, including community leaders and representatives from various organisations, aims to strengthen community involvement in drug prevention. Partners include the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Metropolitan Police, Thai Health Promotion Foundation, and international entities like GIZ. Key activities offered health checks and safety workshops, driving the message forward. Amnat Laokoti emphasised sustainable drug prevention efforts and community participation by engaging motorbike taxi leaders, who are crucial eyes and ears on the streets. This collaboration also extends to training sessions that enhance the skills of these local leaders, driving the "Healthy Riders, Safe Driving, Drug-Free" network. This year's event focuses on broader community vigilance with free health checks as part of a city-wide campaign, encouraging riders to actively help maintain safe neighbourhoods. This continues the 2022-2023 programme, which engaged over 2,426 participants, with plans to expand to 5,000 by 2026 across Bangkok's 18 districts. The event also provided drug screenings, health checks, financial advice, and helmet distribution, encouraging public vigilance. Residents are urged to report any drug-related activities to the 24-hour hotline at 1386. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Siam Rath 2025-06-23
