Shopping tips? Bed sheets, sandals, flipflops

Here are some specialist requests for

- brand recommendations 

- shop recommendations

in Pattaya or (preferred) Jomtien, even if Bangkok would be much better. Online ordering within Thailand is possible if useful.

 

Bedsheets striped white in white

 

In the hotels I enjoy the striped white in white bedsheets, and I would like to buy them in Thailand, if they are considerably cheaper and of good quality, especially 100% cotton, organic, and preferably Egyptian cotton. If Thailand bed sheets offer no big advantage over what you get in the west, I would prefer to buy later in the West, to keep my fly-home luggage smaller.

Colours could be white and or totally undyed natural. Organic undyed\unbleached cotton very welcome. It could be packed ready to use or tailor-made. Actually, bespoke might be an advantage because the mattress at home is  unusually high.

I have 12 days before I fly back to the West. I would need:

Fitted sheet (contour sheet, with rubber band) 200 x 160 x 25 cm (unusually *high* mattress)

2 pillow cases 40x80 cm

cover duvet not necessarily

 

Smart sandals, flip flops

 

I believe Thai guys mostly wear closed shoes like sneakers or cotton tennis shoes, if they don't want to look completely casual, for example in restaurants, live music pubs or when out shopping (not to mention functions and office jobs).

I also wear closed shoes sometimes, but I don't find them exactly convenient.  I wonder if there is something like a half or ¾ closed sandal that looks not totally like poolside attire, adventurist or orthopedic, but slightly more smart and at least semi-acceptable in environments where Thai guys would wear closed shoes, like a restaurant.

I would also like flip flops that look smarter and more fun than the usual job, but not clunky, childish or croc-ish. I used to have great ones from a small manufacturer in the Philippines.

So here I ask you again for brand recommendations and for shop recommendations. Again, I would need a shop in Jomtien (preferred) or Pattaya, and I don't come to Bangkok. So far I have no better ideas than browsing the sports shops in  Central mall, Pattaya.If the things are available for roughly the same price or a bit more in the West, I'd prefer to buy in the west. Online shopping within Thailand might not be an option with footwear and limited time.

You only mention that you live in the West.  I can only offer comparison between Thailand and USA.

 

Standard Thai mattress sizes are different than in the US.  It may be impossible to buy sheets in Thailand that are made to fit the standard US sizes.  Also, I find upscale household items are more expensive in Thailand than in the US.

Thanks, interesting hint. It may be the case though that they are comparable with European values, which is my neck of the woods. I have to find out about it.

I guess good bed sheets could only have competitive prices in Thailand if they are made right there.

Google will tell you standard bed sizes for Thailand and probably also for your home country.

But until you have your bed you will not know as they make other size beds here and even custom size is not uncommon.   Probably best to know size before buying - and sheets are really not that expensive even at Home Pro price (they normally have a good selection).  They last forever.

Missed that - but I felt the same before hospitals started to use so had to use - and found they were not bad - and noticed many older Thai wearing them - not just the collage crowd.

......and then you have to account for the thickness of a topper (which I use) or even a thicker mattress pad.

The point of his request is that he is not buying sheets to fit a bed here in Thailand.  He wants to buy for his bed in the EU.  It seems he was hoping that buying sheets labeled Queen (for example only) size would fit a standard Queen size in his homeland.

Really had to read it all - missed that/never imagined anyone would ask that - but for sure sheets are not cheap in Thailand compared with USA and expect the same would be true with EU.

And, the sheets at Robinson that I bought wore out fast in the washing machine...

Great thread, chaps. When reading the OP, I wondered if it was an elaborate wind-up but I now realise we have a great array of experts on bed sheets and flip-flops who have outed themselves and their feminine side.

Unfortunately I did not wade through enough of the text in that post - seems he stated all kinds of standards/type required and that not even talking about for use in Thailand.  Agree with you that bedding in not cheap here (although perhaps some of Lazada stuff from China might be).  I was unfortunately talking in general re sheets lasting forever - but normal sheets seem to last a long time.  Are you using a hot water wash by chance?  The sun will sanitize.

Yes. Buying from China is the best way to get decent sheets in Chiang Mai, at least from my experience.

I stopped wearing flip flops. Only wearing the quality sneakers from the Usa now. It's not that hot. I'm also wearing regular levi's again instead of shorts every day. Feels much more normal.

That would be my experience, I still have some that I got when I moved into this current place, so 15 years easy, and they get machine washed after each use. (Probably every 2 weeks as they get changed weekly with another set). They were good quality, 100% cotton, that I bought from Homepro, and yes they were expensive at the time. No dryer used as sunny most of the time to dry them. 

Never tried this new stuff they are all made of nowadays, bamboo is one type, forget the name of the other, but not nylon or polyester.

Back in the states a pack of sheets include 2 pillow cases 1  fitted bottom  sheet and 1 thin top sheet.

The top sheet  here in Thailand is to hot to use in the warmer months.

Many of us have made the change - if modesty is the issue PJ work fine.  And yes when I have been in the USA have used a top sheet.  But here there just is no reason for it and not having feet restricted is rather nice.

100 PERCENT cotton is what you need.

I do not use sheets that are purchased by most Chinese or Thai consumers.
