Polls close to the election had them close, with Hillary expected to take the popular vote. She did.

 

The Electoral College put the popular vote loser over the top. It also helped that Putin's funding of Jill Stein's campaign took votes from Clinton. trump's margin over Clinton was less than the votes Stein got in MI, and WI, and quite close in PA. Putin had learned from Perot '92 and Nader '00 what a 3rd Party candidate close to one major Party candidate can do, so funded tree-hugger Stein.

I just gave you the highlights.  Oh, and December was adjusted UP, from the original +216,000 to +333,000. The +23,000 in manufacturing is fantastic.

 

You think trump's numbers---which were much lower than Biden's---are any different? The number is called "Non-farm payroll", so it's ALWAYS a mix. The fact is, the number is huge. More Americans working and getting a paycheck. More Americans are working today than ever in US history.

 

It really hurts that Biden is doing so well for the economy. You must be begging for a crash like traitor trump.

 

Perhaps come later this year, the US will even have to hire a few more prison guards to look after the inmate trump.

All of trump's delay tactics say he knows he's guilty as sin. He just believes he's entitled to commit whatever crime he feels like committing, just as he felt entitled to grab any woman by her lady bits. That's why he's seeking immunity. The trial delays and endless appeals are in the pointless hope he will win in November and then pardon himself.

 

He cannot win. It would have been much smarter to back a young candidate who at least has a chance of beating Biden, and telling that candidate he will toss all his goobers into the candidate's camp if the candidate promises trump a pardon.

 

Of course even then, trump can't be pardoned for his defamation, nor bank and insurance fraud convictions, not even the RICO charges in Georgia, as those are all State charges. The GA RICO charge carries a mandatory 5 year prison sentence if convicted, which for an obese 78 year old slob with increasing dementia, that's really a life sentence.

I think politics in America have degenerated to the point where a decent person, a person with some integrity, would simply not be attracted to the office. The race is too grueling and the presidency itself is a horrific job, so only a very power hungry, megalomaniac type would even want the job. I think Biden's doing it out of a sense of obligation, but the days of high quality people running for that office are in the rear view. We will only see very low quality candidates in the future.

I see that you don't grasp what the figures mean. Increased layoffs by themselves tell us nothing without knowing about hiring figures. For example:

"The report also indicated that December’s job gains were much better than originally reported. The month posted a gain of 333,000, which was an upward revision of 117,000 from the initial estimate."

The Labor Department on Friday said that employers added 3.1 million jobs last year, more than the 2.7 million initially reported last month. That makes 2023 the best year for job growth since 1999 — not counting the previous two years, when the labor market was still emerging from its pandemic hole.

     Totally agree.  I never saw the need even from the get-go and it's certainly not needed or wanted now, except possibly by Republicans.  It has literally turned US Presidential elections into travesties where only the 'swing' states are deemed important and 'safe' states are pretty much ignored by the candidates.

     Ludicrous that the will of the voters was ignored in 2016--two million more voters wanted Clinton over Trump and a handful of votes in a few states were able to flip the cursed Electoral College.  Another handful of votes here and there and Trump could have won in 2020, even though he lost the popular vote by 7 million.   Madness.   Ditto for the 2000 election with Gore getting more votes than Bush--we would have been spared 8 years of the Cheney presidency.  Time for US presidential elections to listen to the voters and not the cursed EC--the voters are usually right.
