All 24 members of the “soft power on fashion” subcommittee have resigned en masse, effective on February 1st, claiming that they have already completed their assignment, which was to collect information, set policies and plans as well as guidelines for the development of the fashion and textile industries as part of Thailand’s soft power development strategy.

Speaking on behalf of the panel, Kamonnart Ongwandee, the chair, said that all the members had considered and agreed that the next stage of the work is beyond their ability to commit enough time. All the members have their own businesses to attend to and, with regret, they agreed that they would have to cease their roles on the panel.

Meanwhile, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Pheu Thai party leader and vice chair of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, thanked the subcommittee, in her “X” post, for their contribution in laying down the foundation for the development of fashion and textiles industries.

I have to commend them for their integrity. They could have just failed to show up and yet continued to collect their stipends, as most of the senators appear to do

Or maybe it wasn't worth it....But seriously, I agree with your post.

Secretary of the committee, Dr. Surapong Suebwonglee, said he learned of the panel’s issue from Kamonnart last December and that they might not be able to cope with the increased workload.

He said he will name a new panel, to be proposed to the soft power committee for approval next Friday.

I'm sure he can muster enough who have no integrity.

What's really happening?

"Kamonnart Ongwandee Exits Committee Amid Elephant-Print Pants Guinness Record Controversy" by Thainews editorial team on Feb. 3, 2024  https://thai.news

Regarding the sub-committee's departure, PM Thavisin "urged for calm, hinting at the melodrama being an overblown affair." What?!?

  • Regarding TAT's Feb 21 to 27 extravaganza presenting in part its "pièce de résistance" elephant- print pants challenge.
  • Kamonnart responded in Facebook to question the rationale behind the event and lamenting the missed opportunity to debate its merit. “We did not have the chance to oppose the idea. They did not consult us… What will you achieve after doing this?”
  • "Yet, whispers of a dispute over work plans with a shadowy state agency floated in the air, with fingers pointing at an upcoming, rather unconventional, Guinness World Record event as the spark."

Thailand seeks to become the hub of elephant-print pants?

wtf is "soft power"?

Is it the nice small towel offered by attendant in top tier bathrooms or the graceful tissue issue in the plastic roll at pavement restaurant perhaps?  Or the

the emolument too shoddy for the smooth as silk ilk
