Popular Post Sjoerd Posted February 7 Popular Post Posted February 7 Yesterday renewed DL. Came to the overcrowded office at 08.45 and left at 10.00. 2 weeks ago i informed at the office what papers I would need . The woman told : 2 old DL,copy passport from photo and visa page, copy E-visa, a health certificate which could be from a clinic and if not had yellow book a certificate of residence and the QR code from the E-learning. The woman also told that I just needed 1 original document from a clinic and 1 certificate of residence. For the second set for the second DL i could copy them! After i took 2 papers from a clinic for 30 bath each and went to the immigration. The immigration told that I needed 2 certificates of residence of 500 bath each. The E-learning took about 1 hour; 4 sessions of 15 min each. The received QR code has a validity of 6 months. The health certificate and Certificate of residence have a validity of 1 month. When yesterday I showed my 2 set of papers an other woman asked why took 2 original expensive COR from immigration because for the second application a copy was enough. In the future I not will do that again. Because the new driving licenses have a minimal validity of 5 years and is always valid until your birthday, I let them expire 1 week. So I got new licences with a validity of 5 years and 51 weeks; nearly 6 years. All the people at the DLT were very kind and helpfull. 5

When renewing car & bike (as you found out) you only need one original and photocopy. CW has a form for the COR. The trick is to only tick one box. eg Car license. 500baht is ridiculous, however guessing you received it on the spot. It's 200b at CW and takes 1-2 weeks. Some offices it's free.. 1

By the way at DLT I paid all together 760 bath...
SHA 2 BKK Posted February 8 Posted February 8 My licence expires on my birthday. Question- how long after your birthday can you go an renew? So I can get the longer period of time on it? Any guidance appreciated.

I let it expire 1 week, get 5 years and then 51 weeks to my birthday= 5 years and 51 weeks. Your DL can be expired until 1 year, but this not give axtra validity.. I suggest you let it also expire about 1 week. If I not explain clear tell me.

My license was 2 months expired when I went to DLT to renew. My understanding is license can be up to one year expired and can still renew. Don't take that as definitive 1

mlkik Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Udon Thani Immigration also charge ฿500 for a certificate of residence and also insist you need 2 if renewing bot car and motorbike licences. I had already inquired at the Department of Land Transport so knew only 1 was neaded along with a photocopy.

Because all offices act probably not same it would be better to ask at forehand in your office.. 1

Popular Post JohanB Posted February 8 Popular Post Posted February 8 Renewed my 2 pcs 5y DL yesterday in Nakhon Sawan. Have a yellow book & pink ID-cart so I logged in at DLT e-learning the day before. I logged in with my thai ID number. That was a misstake. The quite informative learning was with english subtitles but control questions only in thai. I answered all ok and got a QR-code. When at the center they didn’t recognized the QR-code and say ALL foreigners must use their passport number to register at the DLT E-learning to get the right QR and have the control questions in english. Just had to look at another 1 hour soap opera type good driver/bad driver episode. Got my licences right after that. 760 B totally. By the way, in Nakhon Sawan they have a copy service on first floor, så for 30 B you get all the nessecary copies on your documents you need for 2 licences. The lady there knows exactly what’s needed. 3

The Old Bull Posted February 8 Posted February 8 When I got my last licence in Udon Thani did not have to wait. After the movie and eye test they usher you into a room and you sit next to the machine spitting out licences. When yours comes out they hand t to you. 1

So you didn't require anything from immigration. Didn't do colour test, reaction time etc test, etc Didn't have person take your picture, sign etc

Not sure about the picture maybe the machine that spits out the licences also takes the picture. I got a medical but they weren't interested in it. For the previous medical I just paid the girl at the clinic and she reached under the counter took out a presigned paper and added my name.

That process certainly would not cut it at most DLT throughout Thailand. Surprised as Udon Thani hardly the boon docks

I didn't quite understand this part. Is it a difference if I renew the license before expiration date and after? My temporary driving license is expiring on 7th March, should I let it expire and renew after?

Don't take that as definitive Once your license has expired, it has expired -- and you are supposed to renew it immediately. If you are stopped by the police with an expired license, you will be fined. The one-year "grace period" refers to the time period during which you are allowed to renew your license without going through the entire testing rigamarole from the beginning. As a result was given almost 6 years 1
