I've sold a few things, works well, best if item is picked up, I've only paid first and got delivery after once, worked ok, a friend recently got scammed that way.

The scammer agrees a price, person sends money then scammer blocks you and you don't receive anything.

To prevent scamming don't pay first, can do COD. Also asking for ID passport or thai ID will help, I doubt they will get many fake IDs as they have many fake Facebook profiles

Sounds like what happened to my Mrs, buying pomelos of all things.

I only buy if I can see the item in person.  Far too many are advertising in Pattaya, yet they are in another city and want people to send money with the "promise" they'll ship the item in the mail.

My wife got scammed out of a few hundred trying to buy some small item.

Regarding selling on FB....

Last month I advertised some worn furniture and a desktop PC that was left behind in my recently acquired condo.

I had to format the PC beforehand but it sold the day after going live with just one enquiry.

Messenger on my phone went berserk with messages for the furniture, which was split into separate adverts: sofa/armchairs, dining table/chairs, sideboard, coffee table etc.

The same day as the advert went live I sold the sideboard to the first person to show up, then an hour later, all the rest to a dealer who collected the next morning. He probably got a good deal but I needed a rest from having to respond to enquiries.

For the ads - Good photos and clear wording etc, all in English.

A farang bought the PC, and all the furniture went to Thais. All paid cash and took the items away.

Similar luck might depend on what you're selling, and how you price it, but furniture seems to be red hot judging by my experience.

I'm neither and happily posted my experience above proving this.

You were selling, how you could be scammed.

There are many scammers on FB, and I posted a thread with evidence about that a few months ago

Yes, you're probably right about some scammer sellers, but the

OP asked about experiences with selling, so I answered.

For some unknown reason other posters then want to comment on how many scammers there are.

Yes, little chance of being scammed if you are selling and only accept cash/bank transfer as payment.

Have sold & bought from FB Marketplace, and don't find it no more scam-ish than other platforms.   Wee bit of common sense and research keeps the scammers at bay.

I have been trying to sell various things for reasonable prices on 'Bahtsold' for a couple of years now such as a nearly new 900W UPS, a Siemens Washing Machine in great condition, a 20KVA AVR in new condition for half the price, a Marantz power amplifier....nou, forget it, no response at all, only viewers.
FB, I don't dare, especially with all the fake responses you're going to get.

It looks like, Thai have enough money and don't buy second hands.

I've sold lots of used stuff on FB Marketplace; and I've also bought some items for a great price.
Lessons learned as a seller:

1) 30% or less of new price

2) take the first serious offer

3) don't continue msg with any non-serious buyers

4) meet in person, or transfer money then send

I sold my car within a few days on FB. Lots of interest in the car, but many tyre kickers also. First guy that came to look at it bought it for the asking price. I think for big things like cars and motorbikes it works ok. I agree there appear to be many scams for lower cost items though.

Caution is definitely the way to go. Be very careful and you’ll be ok. There are scammers galore but genuine sellers too. I’ve bought and sold on marketplace but not in Thailand.

A lot of trolls and time wasters on FB marketplace.

I never buy anything there, as I don't like to be scammed.

I have just 1 item for sale, and have relisted it twice already. Each time I get messages like, is this still available, then when you reply, the message never gets a read notification.

I have about 20 of them so far, so they really must have too much time on their hands.

I currently have an item for sale on FaceBook Market Place at the moment...

Just like you, I am overwhelmed by tyre kickers who asked... "Is this item still available"

They're just time wasters, but my wife highlighted another point, these are people are are 'semi-interested' in the item and 'press on the "is the item still available" button so they have it marked in their own page so they can come back to it later...

But...  if selling a car or a watch - getting asked "is the item still available?" becomes rather annoying...

But - its the cost of doing business / selling something I suppose - we could take a more hassle free approach and sell to specific vendors (i.e. Sell an apple watch at MBK or a Car at a car tent etc) - but we will obviously not achieve our price goals.

And yes... I also agree, its as if some have too much time on their hands... and are bored.

5 hours ago - someone just negotiated a price, a reasonable negotiation, so I agreed - they never came back to me !!!... almost as if they were just messing about seeing how low they could get the item for, then ghosting me once they'd reached a goal or something...

Very odd behavior.

One more thing - when buying or selling on FB market place - as mentioned, there are loads os sellers - thus, only sell in person.

Baht and Sold - you're limiting yourself to about 0.1% of the population or less than.

FB Market Place gives maximum exposure....  but as you commented to comes at the cost of some hassle... but. if you want sell something, you have to get as much exposure as possible and not just limit yourself to expat markets.

I completely agree with you, but I'm not going to start FB, however, once I try to be a member but only get answer in Thai.

I think I'm too old for that.

Is so very easy to copy and paste the Thai text into Google Translate.

IF you are bothered about selling your 'items' then it takes some effort - if you can't be bothered to do a little google translate, then you can't be bothered to sell the item...  may as well give it away.

For the record - over the past 24 hours I've had 13 responses in Thai.

- 10 of them complete time wasters asking if the item is available (a simple enough reply as the 'Yes - its still available, are you interested' response is a one button click.

- Another asking the size (which is idiotic as its a car with full photo's and description).

- Another negotiating a price, me agreeing, then he disappears.

- Another arranging a viewing, then canceling 1 hour before 'viewing time'.

So... Selling on FB is a complete pain in the backside - there are so many time wasters out there...  but that would be the same on any other platform.

It seems when people are in the position of 'purchaser' their mentality changes as if they have all the power and don't care if they give you the run around.

The reality is, if you want something sold, they do have the power and we just have to play along and roll with the BS that comes with trying to sell something.

Previously I've sold cars on FB Market Place other platforms and had other foreigners getting verbally aggressive with me because I won't negotiate to their price.

- In the end I had to tell them I'm not interested in selling to them and blocking them. There are plenty of entitled idiots about.

All of it just comes with the territory of attempting to sell something, no matter the platform, but I figure the more exposure I can get means I'll have to put up with silly responses for a shorter period of time.

If putting stuff on Baht and Sold - and it reaches fewer viewers (or any at all) then of course there are going to be far fewer time wasting responses.

Now I already have the second one asking to contact them on Line. The first one I did, she read the message, then never replied.

Is this a new trick?

Not gonna send a Line message to the second one

Why you selling anything, you're so rich just give it away.
