PM Srettha revs up plans for Thailand’s Formula One debut

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is scheduled to meet with representatives from the renowned world of Formula One (F1) during his official trip to France in a bid to host an F1 event in Thailand.

 

PM Srettha spoke to the media at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok on March 4, discussing his upcoming trips to Australia, Germany, and France. He revealed that his first destination would be the 2024 ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Australia.

 

The 62 year Thai prime minister stated his intention to hold discussions with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet regarding the facilitation of travel between Thai and Cambodian citizens, resolving the issue of PM 2.5 pollution, and addressing overlapping territorial areas. Subsequently, he planned to meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Bin Ibrahim to explore business and economic matters concerning the provinces in the Deep South.

PM Srettha shared that he will also discuss the exchange of knowledge in the education and agricultural sectors with Australian representatives before heading to Germany on March 6 to participate in the International Tourism Berlin (ITB).

Later in the day, the Thai PM is scheduled to travel from Germany to Paris in France. He plans to meet with President Emmanuel Macron and attend the world’s leading real estate market event, Le marché international des professionnels de l’immobilier (MIPIM).

 

The Bangkok-born premier added that he aims to promote various Thai products to the leaders of each country and discuss the Schengen visa exemption for Thai tourists which he once discussed with German Foreign Minister Tobias Lindner in September last year.

 

Highlights of the visit to France include a meeting with a representative from Volkswagen and discussions with the F1 organiser.

 

The Thai prime minister expressed his ambition to invite Volkswagen to establish a factory in Thailand and also wanted the F1 team to consider Thailand as an F1 host.

 

F1 is a premier international auto racing series featuring high-speed, open-wheel cars. It involves a series of races known as a Grand Prix, where teams and drivers compete for the championship, showcasing technology and skill on diverse circuits worldwide.

 

The PM is expected to return to Germany on March 13 before travelling back to Thailand around 1 pm on March 14.

Street race in BBK at night would result in loss of face. Not for Thailand but for F1 drivers. 
While Max trying to overtake Lewis in a corner in low light (malfunctioning) navigating a pothole, somchai has found a way to cut through the blocked track on his Honda wave with no lights, his wife holding the baby in the back, manages to zig-zag past Max and Lewis before finding another gap in the fence and leaving the circuit. 
Commentator: did you see that? Was it a ghost? I hear they exist here.

Team Radio: Don’t worry guys. It was a local nothing to be concerned with. This happens here a lot.

Hope they don't use the Buriram circuit, there are only about 20 hotel rooms within 50 kms of the circuit. Impossible to see the MotoGP races there.

Because F1 management demand huge sums of money to give a country hosting rights to an F1 race.

 

It is the reason why you have F1 races in god awful places like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Azerbaijan.

I think there's a chance purely due to the influence of red bull (Thai owned) on the sport. Money talks. I'd have liked to see the Bangkok street circuit happen, but they would never allow this event near their royal or ancient buildings /monuments. If it were to be anywhere else I don't see it having the appeal to get it on the calendar.

The Chang circuit in Buriram already has FIA approval, but only for testing. The drawback to having F1 there was lack of infrastructure in the immediate local, in particular quick access to a specialised head trauma unit was not available.

I think there would be a very good chance if the F1 programme did not already have more circuits than it can use in any one season. Worth a try though.

I stay in Korat when I go to the MotoGP. Short train ride to Buriram.

There was supposed to be a race in 2015, but that never happened due to legislation banning street racing in Bangkok (was never going to anyway, the whole "plan" was wishful thinking from the start)

This sick, twisted man cares not one iota for his people, or he would be doing something about the #1 emergency facing Thailand. The horrific pollution. Instead he focuses on anything but. This is an abomination. The farmers do not seem to care one iota about their fellow Thai. Neither does the PM.  Not one iota. Why is this happening? Because "Stretta the tiny" is a man who represents corporate interests. This is the man who represents the elite. This is not a man who represents progress, change, or helping the nation to move forward. This is not a man who represents the people.
This not a man who cares about the well-being of the people.

Corporations do not want to clean up the air, they're making billions by fouling the air. All the government or provinces would have to do is crack down on sugar companies and the air would improve by 70% overnight, this time of year. One simple move, yet do they do that? Do they enforce any of the existing laws? Absolutely not, they do not care for the people one iota, the common man, us, our neighbors and friends and family, we mean less than zero.
