With the hot weather coming thought I'd try and install a small fan in the dog's house. The house or kennel, if you like has a pitched roof so there would be sufficient headroom to suspend a small fan from it.

The easiest solution that doesn't need timer or temperature control and running wires, seems to be a solar fan set up.

The idea is that there is no battery so the fan only works when the sun is shining and its hot.

I was thinking about something like this:-  50cm Fan  powered by with this Solar Panel

Any thoughts about if this would work ??

I think the panel is too small, fan is 6W you need at least 10-15W of panel with some form of voltage regulator so you don't over-volt the fan.

I'd add a small 12V lead-acid battery too and keep the fan running at night.

I did see that the fan is 6w and the solar panel is only 5w, but was hoping it would just about work :whistling:

The other point is I don't want the fan to work at night, only in the day when the sun is shining so won't be needing a battery.

Try to see if your dog like to lay in front of the fan first. I have tried since mine was puppy to give him a fan, but he always move himself away even he is hot, so I made a space between the watertanks he now enjoys on the hotter days, and also a little pool for him with fresh water from the well.

My wife's dog has a fan aimed at the front/door of "his house" 2.2m away he positions himself according to his need.

Lithuim would make more sense if not prohibited by cost

Many dogs do not like direct fan air, mine certainly do not. Let's face it, Thailand is just a horrible environment for domestic pets. Disease, virus's, predators, heat, and lack of real exercise due to weather issues, shortens their lives considerably.  My two small dogs live, eat and sleep in aircon for most of the year and that gives them as good a quality of life as I can provide for them.

The fact that dogs don't sweat would surely limit how much use a fan is at cooling them down, surely it would be akin to pointing a hairdryer at them.

This might give you some idea. Doesn't post to Thailand but I'm sure the parts must be available here.

Saw what looks like the same thing on Lazada :- Solar Cooling fan. seemed a bit small thought I'd look for something a little bigger.

At the moment the coolest place she has found is round the back of the house in the shade where its always damp, and cool, with the shower run off and by the underground septic tank :shock1:

Thanks for all your ideas and suggestions. Some things to keep  in mind about canine behavior. Especially about if she would actually like a fan.

I do have my doubts about the usefulness of a fan with a dog. If the ambient temperature is high doubt if blowing a fan over a dog will be much relief.

Just thought I'd explore the possibilities and practicalities of such a project. Will have to give it some more thought.
