Hello.

I will be in CR in 20 days and I would like to know if there are special places to fish? If yes, where?

Also what kind of fishes can be fished.

Thanks for your feedback

Plenty of stocked ponds, not exactly sports fishing stuff.

Kieng Doi Fishing Park is popular.

Just found Joel Barlow's local guide.

Thailand offers fishing parks with rental equipment at many locations. In Chiang Rai the premier spot is Khieng Doi Fishing Park (or "Fishing Park and Mountain Bike" This is located just over 4 kilometers south of Mae Gon intersection (where Highway 1 is intersected by Pahonyothin and Highway 1020 to Thoeng), on the west side of the highway. The address is 12 Mu 5 Tambon Ta Sai, Chiang Rai, and the phone either 701701 or 701110. Rates are quite inexpensive; 50 baht a day, or B100 for three kilos of fish. There's a restaurant where you can have your catch cooked up. Behind the breeding lakes is over 200 rai with trails for biking (20 baht with your own vehicle, and definitely better in the dry season).

Closer to town is the smaller Chiang Rai Fishing Park. Its address is 435 Mu 6, Tanon Serm Rat. Turn right at the first possible turn off Highway 1020 going south, about a kilometer south of Mae Gon Intersection.

Dao Daeng Fishing Park is out Highway 1211, past the Den Ha Intersection at the western edge of town. Wat huay Fai is on the right, Dao Daeng on the left.

Past Dao Daeng is a Karaoke place on a small island, and one can fish from there too.

Also to the west of Doi Khao Quai is Nong Bung and a couple other small lakes which have offered fishing in the past; one must use one's own equipment, but there are several small open-air restaurants (Kua Nong Bung offers from Tom Yom).

7 km west of Mae Jaan is Mae Chan Resort and Fishing Park.

Near Mae Sai is another fishing park; near the Tachilek bridge inexpensive fishing equipment is available for purchase.

Thanks a lot for all these information.

Let's hope I catch one - I love fishing but I am a very bad fisher

No need to be a sportsman here, the fish jump right up at you and the only exercise you have is throwing them back in again.
