A Ratchaburi court ordered former Palang Pracharath MP Pareena Kraikupt to pay Bt7.6 million today for the cost of a by-election held by the Election Commission after she was removed as an MP for ethics violations.

The court said Pareena must pay the sum to the Election Commission within 30 days. If she fails to comply with the order, her assets will be confiscated or she will be arrested and jailed.

In April last year, the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders found Pareena guilty of severe ethical misconduct.

She's pissed someone in the military off that's for sure. Ethical misconduct? How about this....

Thailand's powerful Deputy PM Prawit Wongsuwan and his $1.5 ...

Apart from this a by-election costs Bt7.6m? I guess pockets must be filled.

That's just odd, elections are the 'cost of doing business' for government.

Nothing is ever odd in Thailand to the Thai's.....

The smug face has gone....

No doubt a sensible punishment but - from a 'Western' point of view - quite peculiar. No end to Thai inventiveness.
