My hip is starting to hurt.

You should see an ortho specialist and get an xray.

If the hip joint is badly degenerated then you may need to minimize weight bearing. Whereas if tight muscles are to blame walking and stretches will help.

No way to know without girst diagnosing the cause.

Will do. Remarkable is that I have this problem only for 4 to 5 weeks. No long term "sneeking-up" on me, as usually is the case, concerning "hip-problems". I shall see.

My hip (right side) is strarting to hurt. Little walking, little sports. Should I start walking more or less to delay hip surgery?

I have 2 hip prothesis. For the first, left leg, I delayed the surgery much too long. I was stuborn and tought wrongly that the longer I wait, the longer the prothesis will stand in future. After the sugery that leg never functioned correctly. In fact the cartilage vanishes totally and thus you distort the natural moving proces. When the same symptomes appeared in my right hip we didn't wait with the surgery, which was very successfull processed. For the record my left hip was done in 2000 and the right hip in 2008. Both are still stable, recently checked. I am 71 years old now. Thus my advice on the spot, don't wait too long. The sooner the better

you may be pleasantly surprised that it is not surgery time......i had similar and the doc did bunch of xrays than a cortisone shot(i think that is what it was) and within a week i was ok again...aches and pains are a part of aging but surgery is not always the answer...

My sister in law is awaiting a further "correction" after a botched- up hip operation in a first- class Melbourne hospital. Describing Opium Pain Killers as the only remedy as they will try to rectify the problem with further invasive operations. (April 22). If that doesn't work, an increase of Opiod Pain killers will serve as the ultimate solution.

Lay on your back , raise the affected leg in front of you, then move the leg out to the side of you're getting pain , then it could be the start of an arthritic joint, then go see a Dr.

Go to a gym regularly. Ask a qualified instructor.

Buddy just had a hip replacement up in Bangkok.  Says it's a rare procedure in Thailand. Said only 5 surgeons here know how to do an arthroplasty.

i get a little transient twinge sometimes in my hip as well as some other 77 year old joints.  So sometimes tylenol, sometimes ibuprofen, but not daily. Sometimes stay off the exercise bike.

5 ... I think you're buddy is misinformed.  As I'm in Nakhon Nowhere, and have hip issue, and doc suggested I talk to local doc, for a titanium hip replacement.

I hear India is the place to go for Hip Replacement, but then I hear TH is the place to go for dental work, and I wouldn't recommend that to anyone from the USA.

Yep, I hear you, but wonder if the local doc can to do the work. So I'm standing by my buddies comment for now.

Diagnosis and referral issue.

I am only referring to the post above post-operative issues. I had a full hip replacement in Bangkok following a hip fracture, not degenerative. 2+ years now and no pain while walking but my walk is not as frisky as before. Also slow on stairs but no pain.

Not at all rare in Thailand and available in virtually all private hospitals unless extremely small. Also available in most larger military hospitals. Perhaps your friend meant in the public hospital system. There they would often have to refer up to a university hospital.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well if your heading for a hip replacement then at least in Australia they like you to keep moving until you cant, key is strengthening muscles around the hip, if you get that hip replacement that's going to help a lot in recovery.

I was in construction and yeah I went to work every day until my operation, I just shrugged the pain of it off a busy mind was very helpful, always seemed to hurt at the end of the day driving home or just sitting in front off the telly or pc...and yes I was put on to a range of pain killers that didnt seem to help much....2 ys from the first sign till surgery..
