Popular Post webfact Posted April 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 13, 2024 On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul (centre) again entered the controversy over Swiss national Urs Fehr (left). He even sent a social media message on the LINE app to Phuket’s governor Sophon Suwannarat. The Interior Minister warned of financial inducements being offered to have the case against Mr Fehr settled outside court. Mr Fehr faces a charge under Section 391 for assaulting Dr Thandao Chandam on February 24th 2024. At the same time, Mr Anutin is on record as assuring the Swiss man that his appeal against the cancellation of his visa will not succeed. Mr Anutin is the ultimate adjudicator under the 1979 Immigration Act. Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul urges Swiss man Urs Fehr to leave Thailand as the Phuket governor is tasked with monitoring the prosecution of Fehr’s assault case. Fehr faces public outcry and potential deportation over the attack on a female Thai doctor. The Minister of the Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, has intervened again in the case of accused Swiss man Urs Fehr in Phuket. It comes simultaneously with an announcement by Phuket Governor, Sophon Suwannarat, that an appeal by the accused Swiss national against his visa revocation would proceed. Certainly, Mr Anutin has let it be known that Mr Fehr is wasting his time pursuing such an appeal. ‘It’s a waste of time, better to go home,’ Mr Anutin recently told reporters. Now he is also urging Governor Sophon to make sure that the prosecution against Mr Fehr is not settled financially. Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat to monitor the high-profile prosecution of Swiss man Urs Fehr. The deputy PM wants the process to go forward without any interference or influence. At this time, reports suggest the complainant, Dr Thandao Chandam, may have been approached to settle her case financially. by James Morris and Son Nguyen RELATED TOPIC: Phuket Governor Addresses Rumors in Swiss Expat Alleged Assault Case https://aseannow.com/topic/1324762-phuket-governor-addresses-rumors-in-swiss-expat-alleged-assault-case/ Full story: Thai Examiner.com 2024-04-13 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe 5 4 3 1 3 1 6

Popular Post Ben Zioner Posted April 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 13, 2024 Is the minister of interior obstructing the course of justice? How can a matter follow its course in court while Anustin states he will decide on the outcome. Thailand definitely is a great democracy, the Land of the free. 4 16 1 1 5
Popular Post Hummin Posted April 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 13, 2024 You may look at it as an instruction to the Governor, to not accept bribes in this case, but still not mention his powerful friends who tried to make that happen, and also provided him with weapon license. Well TIT and should we be shocked? Really? 1 7
Popular Post Gecko123 Posted April 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 13, 2024 Shouldn't this just be left up to the courts? Anutin weighing in on this legal proceeding before it has concluded is akin to Nixon opining on Charlie Manson's guilt half-way through the Tate-LaBianca murder trial. More restraint and respect for the judiciary's independence from politicians would also help instill greater confidence in the public, both here and abroad, that the final decision on this high profile case was made fairly and impartially. 5 6 1 1 2 2

The Minister of Interior is the head of the ministry. He is appointed by the King of Thailand on the recommendation of the prime minister. Since 1 September 2023, the head of the ministry has been Anutin Charnvirakul. So the Phuket Governor serves at Anutin's pleasure. 3 4 2 2 7 1

Popular Post spidermike007 Posted April 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 13, 2024 Though it would appear that Anutin's involvement would pretty much assure a specific outcome, for once he seems to be on the right side of an issue by putting pressure on the relevant authorities to make sure that money does not influence this decision. There is no question Thailand would be a better place without David Fehr on it's soil, he is a most foul man and seems to bring a dark cloud wherever he goes. Will Anutin influence the decision anyway? Never forget this tiny, grossly incompetent man was part of a terrible administration that redefined "the art of never following up" for nine long years. 6 2 2

It's also a PR move. Like participating, in person, in venue checkups. He can be sure, to get cheered from the majority of the public in the "Swiss" case, and peddling the "anti-farang" vibes. To distract from his disastrous performance during covid, the "half cooked" cannabis legalisation, as health minister. 8

We've consciously distorted the point as usual to enjoy that feeling of perpetual persecution. Anutin has the legal authority to decide the matter the visa revocation, on his own. A crime or conviction for a crime isn't necessary to revoke a foreigner's visa. Being considered an undesirable, as this Swiss unquestionably is, is sufficient grounds. The court case is a different matter. 1 8 2 1 1

Seems thinking rationally about what needs to be done. 2 2
