Amidst reports of potential sanctions against an Israeli military unit, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has staunchly vowed to resist any such measures. The speculation arose following suggestions that the United States could slash aid to Israel's Netzah Yehuda battalion due to allegations of human rights violations in the occupied West Bank. Formed in 1999, Netzah Yehuda is a special men-only unit where ultra-Orthodox Jews serve.

In response to the news, Netanyahu asserted his commitment to opposing any sanctions vigorously, declaring his intention to fight against them with all available means. The Axios news outlet had earlier hinted at the possibility of the US targeting the Netzah Yehuda battalion over purported human rights abuses, marking a potential departure from Washington's longstanding support for Israeli military operations.

However, the Israeli military swiftly responded, affirming its adherence to international law and expressing unawareness of any impending sanctions against the battalion. The IDF emphasized its commitment to investigating any reported incidents in a thorough and lawful manner.

The allegations against the Netzah Yehuda battalion stem from various incidents in the West Bank, including the tragic death of 80-year-old Palestinian-American Omar Assad during a search operation in January 2022. The US had called for a comprehensive criminal investigation into Assad's death, prompting scrutiny of the battalion's conduct.

While the IDF expressed regret over Assad's demise and imposed disciplinary measures on certain personnel involved, the move did not fully satisfy Assad's family, who decried the decision to close the case.

The potential imposition of sanctions on the battalion would likely be executed under the Leahy Law, which prohibits US assistance to foreign military units implicated in severe human rights violations. This development underscores the delicate balance between international support for Israel and accountability for alleged misconduct.

The recent imposition of sanctions on prominent activist Ben Zion Gopstein and his organization, Lehava, underscores the multifaceted challenges facing Israeli society and its relations with international partners. As the situation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how these developments will shape the future of US-Israeli relations and efforts to address human rights concerns in the region.

Do tell us how they adhere to international law when it's blindingly obvious that they don't.

Gee, Mr Putin should take lessons from netanyahu as how to avoid sanctions then.

Does it involve writing a polite letter to whom it may concern saying sorry for breaking all those international laws , and he'll do better in future?

Isn't it so funny, haha, that the US seems to have forgotten all about that law. Perhaps someone told Biden about it but he "forgot".

To you anything that can be held against Israel will be, but sorry, you need evidence.

US has seen no evidence that Israel has committed genocide, Austin says

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Tuesday rebuffed arguments that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, saying he’s seen no evidence to suggest it.

What is going on does not qualify under said law... the only severe human rights being violated (which is mandatory for that law to be implemented) in the entire middle east and especially Gaza are those being violated by your friend the hamas...

And Netanyahu is the biggest problem in the ongoing Israel/ Gaza conflict, followed very closely by his (hand picked by himself) war cabinet.

I don't think it's a problem for that man. I think he's exactly where he wants to be, in an intractable  conflict which means that he likely will not be locked up till it's over and seems that every time it looks like a negotiated end is likely he comes up with some way to prolong it. With him pulling Biden's strings he can probably extend it indefinitely. With any luck Iran will do something he can use to really kick it off and wham bam the US boots are all over the place.

I'm wondering when the part of the world that isn't an American poodle is going to just ignore the UN security council and sanction netanyahu and his cabal up the ying yang. Hopefully this year.

Numerous political leaders and Western commentators have criticised Netanyahu and his far right choices for Cabinet; they do not equate to "Hamas apologists", nor does the member.

I wasn't responding to political leaders or western commentators, I do know who I was responding to and with reason,
