This was certainly a common sight if you took a an evening stroll down the Bund in Shanghai going back a few years. They even cut the seats out of kids pants so they just do no 1 and no 2 anywhere.

Did the Buddha always use a toilet?

Yes he always paid 5 baht to use the abundance of public toilets 2566 years ago.

Instead of trousering all the Money that Tourism generates, if just some was invested back into the system in the form of Public Toilets and possibly pay to use Showers, probably non of these incidents would occur.

there are so many Karens in Thailand

The people of perfect in every way

Well, and how this little girl should be punished???

Ridiculous 😵‍💫

No one’s calling for the girl to be punished or blaming her.  It’s the parents responsibility!

Note how ‘outrage’ is ALWAYS reserved for foreigners. I did nit notice any ‘outrage’ yesterday when a Thai minivan driver knocked down and killed an elderly farang lady in Phuket. So, killing somebody is just fine, but a little girl having an emergency pee demands outage. I’m outraged !

Parents must’ve seen Thai men urinating just about anywhere on the roadside thinking it’s no big deal. How about animals living in and around temples urinating everywhere. On the other hand some Asians are selfish and do what they please with little regard or understanding of etiquette. Surely they could’ve located a toilet if they tried.

From Guatama Buddha's perspective (The Satipatthana Sutta and Its Commentary - in part):

  • "feces-and-urine coming out thus is neither that bhikkhu's own nor another's. It is just bodily excretion."
  • "When from a water-vessel or calabash a person throws out the old water, the water thrown out is neither his nor other's. It simply forms parts of a process of cleansing. In the form of reflection proceeding in this way clear comprehension of non-delusion should be understood."

Sounds like the child being unaware was actually making a blessing.

I don't think that people care. It's just a little girl peeing. People are too busy trying to survive to care about trivial matters.

Agree I have seen this in China many years ago, it's a normal way of life, the kids 'pants' were made with a flap to open, I saw kids pooing on a piece of cardboard right on the foot path, open pit toilets with a plank across, rows of houses with a communal toilet block, only 2 blocks high separating the cubicles, and NO WATER to wash yourself.

Many clamoured for stringent actions

In nearly 20 years here in LOS, never seen anyone clamouring (except maybe in Walking Street).

Amid this defining national debate,

Might this characterization of the social media background noise be a bit exaggerated?

It seems to be a lot of fuss of a young child having to relieve them selves

Now if it was a elder person then you would have something to complain about

As they should better 🤔

Yes! It’s an outrage for a Four year old doing a little pee pee when she should have sat on the elephant pants lap

This would be unacceptable behaviour in any country and illegal in my own. Add the location to that deed; it is outrageous. It is not hard to identify the nationality from that one photo and no one will be surprised...

national outrage.... loooooooooooool...  slow day ?

why are there no public toilets and where do monks pee?

the person that took and spread this picture should go to jail for spreading child porn online...
