Since China won't change course the question is what is the US going to do about it. It begged China to exert pressure to stop the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and turned tail from Operation Prosperity Guardian. The US's big stick is looking more and more than a large twig. But when you hollow out a productive vibrant economy with offshoring and game the system with finacialisation that "makes money" and not things you lose that power.

US accuses China of giving ‘very substantial’ help to Russia’s war machine - In exchange, China is getting top secret Russian military technology.

Now Washington is unambiguously saying that China is aiding the Russian military. With Moscow facing international sanctions, it desperately needs technology to boost its military production to be able to continue its war against Ukraine.

Britain’s warfighting ability has been damaged by training Ukrainian soldiers, a report by the National Audit Office (NAO) has found.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said that the UK’s military support for Ukraine had “constrained” its ability to train British troops, as it reduced the availability of training facilities on the Army’s estate.

The report, published on Wednesday, said: “The MoD has acknowledged that Interflex will constrain the Army’s capacity to train its own soldiers.”

Russia to spend over half billion dollars to block VPN services

The funds will be used to improve technology that filters Internet traffic and blocks or slows down specific web resources.

In 2019, Russia introduced legislation that permits the country to totally disconnect from the internet in what it calls a "campaign to preserve digital sovereignty".

Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin reportedly banned some foreign social media and internet corporations, however many sites are still accessible via virtual private networks, or VPNs.

I am unsure what points you are trying to make but there is nothing in your reply that addresses my post, and it certainly doesn't in any way negate my contention that the responsibility for this war lies firmly with Russia (Putin).

You attempt to paint Zelensky as a failure and imply that he is being anti-democratic by not holding an election. In normal, peaceful times you might have a point and the Ukrainian people might agree with you. However, of course, these are not normal times for Ukraine and attempting to hold an election now would be ridiculous.

The Maidan Uprising WAS a mass revolt. You are being disingenuous and economical with the facts in attempting to portray it as anything else. It may have started out with a protest march of +/-20,000 people in Kyiv, but over the course of five days the numbers involved swelled to 800,000. There were also sizeable protests in other Ukrainian cities. There may well have been " .. a nasty undercurrent of far right forces fomenting unrest for their own ends ..", but the overwhelming majority of protesters were ordinary Ukrainian citizens and the only "echoes of January 6th" were to be found in the tiny number of far right agitators.

You attempt to draw a parallel between Chechnya and Ukraine when none exists. Chechnya is part of Russia; Ukraine is - or would be were it not for Russia - an independent, sovereign nation. You imply that Yanukovych's action was justified as it was an attempt to avoid (armed?) conflict with Russia and build "cordial relations" with her, but the obvious conclusion is that the terms of this 'cordial relationship' would be dictated by Russia. What independent, sovereign nation would accept such conditions?

What happens post-war depends upon many factors. There will inevitably be those who become wealthy (wealthier) on the back of any reconstruction. And ... ? Would you prefer that Ukraine remains nothing more than a very large demolition site?

The legitimancy (or otherwise ) of Maidan is for another place given that if I reply at length my post will be zapped. There were at least 3000 heavily armed far rightists directing the pushback against the authorities. A committed miltant cadre can make the weather if they so choose. Which indeed they did. Trotskyism works on the same basis of entryism of mass movements and set the agenda and direction of travel. I was one myself in the Anti-Nazi League in the late 70s.

And no one should kid themselves that this is a "friendship of equals". China is one dictating the terms of this relationship.

As a business associate once said to me, "Anything for a friend for a fee".

No one doubts that for one minute - but the forcing by necessity of Russia (the world's largest country and source of minerals) with China the world's largest manufacturing base and population and season with DPRK and Iran into an alliance of convenience will probably ne seen as one of the greatest foreign policy mistakes of the early 21st Century.

He just wants a new generation of conscripts to grow up in Ukraine. But that sounds pretty cruel. So Trump opts for more sentimental arguments.
