Best Song of Past 100 Years? Your Vote?
I first heard this song, Stairway, in Tokyo. We all, the Japs and I, knew it was.....GREATNESS.... Even then. I had not heard it in the US, at the time. Japan has changed. We have also changed. I wish I could go back. But, I would not go back...unless.... I could take the internet with me.... ((Such a profound remark, this.... I really did not think that I had it ....in me.....)) NOTE4: Please forgive because...in my original comment I had meant PELVIC Thrusts and NOT PUBIC Thrusts with the music..... But this was just a TYPO..... And, also....How FING Gauche of me.....to have made this typo.....So Solly.....!!!!!! NOTE4.1: So happy that you have some appreciation for one of the greatest songs in 100 years...... -

Human Trafficker Arrested in Samut Prakan for Forcing Victims onto Fishing Boats
Picture courtesy of Khoasod. Authorities have arrested a notorious human trafficker, known as "Jae Ja Paknam," in Samut Prakan, who was involved in a brutal human trafficking operation that forced victims into slave labour aboard fishing vessels. Those who resisted were thrown into the sea, with one survivor miraculously rescued after drifting for three days. On September 17, Pol. Maj. Gen. Sarut Khwaengsopha, Chief of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD), ordered the arrest of 62-year-old Sompong (last name withheld), also known as "Jae Ja." The arrest warrant, issued by the Criminal Court in 2014, charged her with several offenses, including human trafficking, unlawful detention, and forcing individuals into slavery. The arrest took place at Wat Phothiyaram (Thong Khong) in Samut Prakan Province. The case first came to light in 2012 when the ATPD received a report from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. The victim had been lured by labour brokers with promises of high-paying work on a fishing boat. Upon arriving in Samut Prakan, they were taken to Sompong’s karaoke bar, coerced into signing a slave labour contract, and confined to a room under threats of violence. Victims were then sent to various fishing boats, eventually being trafficked onto vessels in Malaysian waters. Many were forced to endure grueling working conditions and violent abuse. One victim, after resisting, was thrown into the sea, where they drifted for three days before being rescued by a passing Vietnamese cargo ship and returned to Thailand. Following the initial report, investigators gathered evidence to secure arrest warrants for five individuals involved in the operation. Several accomplices have already been arrested, but Sompong managed to evade capture for over a decade. After re-examining the testimonies of previously arrested suspects, investigators confirmed Sompong’s identity, leading to her capture. During questioning, Sompong admitted to her involvement in trafficking both Thai nationals and migrant workers onto fishing boats, where they were subjected to slave labour. She also revealed that she had been convicted of human trafficking in Samut Prakan previously and had served a three-year prison sentence. Sompong is now in custody and faces further prosecution by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division. Authorities continue their efforts to dismantle human trafficking networks in the region. -- 2024-09-18 -

Poll: Do you want Ukraine to WIN in the Russia-Ukraine war (it's a binary choice)
Four slave-owning border states (Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland and Delaware) remained in the Union, but NO free states joined the Confederacy. The anti-slavery western part of Virginia formed a new free state (West Virginia) and some counties in slave states declared themselves loyal to the Union, but no state that was free prior to the Civil War seceded. -

Oil Transport Ship Stranded off Koh Mai Si Due to Engine Failure, Crew of 12 Safe
Picture courtesy of response boats. A ship transporting oil experienced engine failure and was swept ashore by strong waves, becoming stranded on rocks behind Koh Mai Si in Koh Kut District, Trat Province. The incident occurred on the morning of September 17, but fortunately, all 12 crew members on board were unharmed. At approximately 08:00, Phairat Soisaeng, the district chief of Koh Kut, received a report about the tanker, identified as the Thai Laemthong 8, which had run aground on rocks near the back of Koh Mai Si, opposite the Soneva Kiri Resort. The ship, which had been en route from Cambodian waters to Rayong Province, encountered rough seas overnight and made an emergency stop between Koh Mai Si and Koh Kut to shelter from the storm. However, early that morning, severe weather caused the engine to fail, leaving the vessel vulnerable to the strong waves. The waves pushed the ship onto the rocks, damaging the ship's hull and allowing water to seep in. The crew immediately worked to pump water out of the ship to prevent it from sinking. Local officials, including police from the Koh Kut Police Station and officers from the Koh Kut Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, were dispatched to the scene in a small speedboat to assess the situation. Due to rough seas, they were unable to reach the ship directly, but confirmed that there were no injuries among the crew. There have been no reports of oil leakage into the sea. Dechathorn Chanob, the mayor of Koh Kut Subdistrict, explained that efforts were underway to free the ship from the rocks. Two large fishing vessels and a ship from the Royal Thai Navy's 1st Fleet were called in to assist. However, due to the heavy weight of the tanker and the continued rough sea conditions, the operation to tow the ship back to open waters was unsuccessful. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any environmental damage and ensure the safety of the crew. Further rescue efforts will be made once weather conditions improve. -- 2024-09-18 -
