Pattaya City is taking steps to become a smart city by promoting eco-friendly transportation.

As part of this initiative, the city has recently received 12 fully electric Hilux Revo–e pickup trucks from Toyota Thailand to be used as public Songthaews around the city. These vehicles are operated by the Pattaya Bus Cooperative and currently run on four routes including:

Route 4 (5 vehicles): Laem Bali Hai – Banglamung District Office
Route 5 (3 vehicles): Naklua – Jomtien
Route 6 (3 vehicles): South Pattaya – Naklua
Route 7 (1 vehicle): North Pattaya – Jomtien

According to Pattaya Mayor Mr. Poramase Ngampiches, the project is part of the “Sustainable Prototype City Free from Pollution” initiative, which aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from transportation in Pattaya and lay the foundation for a pollution-free public transportation system.

Well done Toyota, this will be a good test, for them, stopping (brake lights), constant horn tooting, A/C in the cab, lights on at night, wipers in the rain, I would add indicators but,  lets see if they can last a full shift.

Edit; and carrying around 15 passenger with big beer bellies.

Pattaya Goes Green with Sustainable Electric Transportation

Greener is more suitable, 12 x electric vehicles hardly warrant's "goes green" given the total number of taxis that are on the road, will be interesting to see how long they last, dare say A/C in the cab won't be used now the weather is cooler ................LOL

Is it really green?

To my knowledge, almost all electricity in Thailand is generated using fossil fuel.

All this does is shift the pollution from the vehicles back to the power station.

Cleaner for Pattaya, a little, for Thailand, not really.

Thailand has hydro and solar. Including floating solar on a lake created by a hydro dam.

So not all the electricity is from fossil fuels.

Also, electric motors are that much more efficient than a combustion engine that it's still cleaner even if all the electricity is generated by coal.

But keeping passing on that oil company misinformation that you read "somewhere".

First, the majority of power is fossil fuel generated.

The engines are more efficient, charging them isn't, it's grossly inefficient, the more so over the distance to the charging source.

Not from some oil propaganda I've read but from various scientific papers.

Also I'm a highly qualified and experienced electrical/electronic engineer.

Do we expect them to last any longer than the stopping buses that were introduced some years back... and were being offered for sale on Sukhumvit not long after?
