Thai police have apprehended a French individual for attempting to ship cocaine hidden in a toy car to a friend in Cambodia. The drug-laden parcel was discovered by a courier company during routine X-ray checks, prompting them to alert authorities.

The Senior police officials, which included the Deputy Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, revealed the arrest of the 39-year-old French national, known as Maxence. He was arrested under a warrant issued by the Criminal Court in April for allegedly trying to export cocaine, a Category 2 narcotic. This action is seen as drug trafficking and carries a risk of wide public distribution.

Maxence was apprehended in a residential area in Bangkok's Suan Luang district. The Narcotics Suppression Bureau initiated the investigation after being tipped off about the suspicious package destined for Cambodia by a courier service worker. The 1kg parcel was sent from a sender named Gregore in Bangkok to a recipient named Jerome in Cambodia's Siem Reap.

Upon inspection, investigators found a toy car, a remote, and an empty charger box. Hidden within was a tightly packaged white powder, around 10 grams, that tested positive for cocaine.

After seizing the drugs as evidence, investigators traced the parcel back to Maxence, who was residing with a Thai woman in the same area. Police detained him as he was about to leave his house.

During questioning, Maxence confessed that he had bought the cocaine from an unknown man he met at a nightclub in Bangkok, admitting that the package and the drugs were his. He also shared that this was his first attempt at delivering it to a friend in Cambodia.

He was convinced that the Thai police had intercepted the package but did not anticipate it would lead them back to him as he had used an assumed name. Maxence also claimed that he planned to continue sending small amounts of cocaine to his friend if the initial attempt had been successful. However, after the botched first attempt, he became apprehensive about being apprehended and decided against any further shipments. He stated, "This was my first time sending the package, and I didn’t think the police would track me down."

No, just one example of alliteration.

If he used an assumed name to send and did not use identification then did the finger prints on the package eventually lead to him?

"Maxence also claimed that he planned to continue sending small amounts of cocaine to his friend if the initial attempt had been successful."

Very bright statement, jeez.
