Manhunt Launched for Fugitive Brit Thought to be Hiding in Thailand

British Police have launched an international manhunt for a fugitive from Warrington, UK, who is believed to be hiding in Thailand. 

 

Luke Atkin, a 36-year-old from Lower Walton, failed to appear in court on serious drug charges and is now on the run. Atkin was charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine but did not attend his trial at Bradford Crown Court. Last week, he was found guilty in absentia, leading the authorities to issue an immediate warrant for his arrest.

 

North Yorkshire Police suspect Atkin has fled the country and may be hiding in Thailand. The awareness of his potential location emerged from various sources, warranting an urgent public appeal for any information regarding his whereabouts.

 

A police spokesperson issued a statement urging public cooperation. 

 

 

 

“Luke Atkin is wanted by the courts. Do you know where he is? We are appealing to anyone who has seen him or knows where he is now to contact us. It's believed that he has travelled abroad and could be in Thailand. We urge anyone with information to call us on 101 and reference incident number 12240074511. Alternatively, you can pass information anonymously to Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111."

 

Atkin's case has captured public attention due to the severity of the charges and his daring escape. Authorities believe public assistance could be crucial in locating him.

i would start in Pattaya and fan out from there.

Probably not, same as Thailand - get charged with a serious offence but retain your passport so you can do a runner, especially if hi-so status.

If he did enter Thailand he slipped through the net.. but never fear he will get caught when he does his 90 day report/check.

If he is hiding in Thailand it will not be long before they catch him.

 

Don't know why people abscond like that, eventually circumstances will catch up with them.

 

Maybe he should have tried hiding in one of the following countries:

The United Kingdom does not have extradition treaties with a number of countries, including Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, and Syria

Yes, but what can be done if there is no extradition request and he is in Thailand legally?

"Caught" for what?  He's not wanted in Thailand for anything, is he?

Yes but he is not 50 years old so he cannot retire here, he could get a elite visa but that will not give him carte blanche to stay here, so at some time he will have to leave the country or overstay, but two things will most definitely get him one is the UK police will deny him access to any bank account he holds, and also at some time his UK passport will run out and he will not get another one.

So his time is limited where ever he is residing

In the UK you are innocent until convicted (thank god)! So his passport is his unless it can be shown he is a flight risk and even then it's almost impossible to prove. Let's remember before he is publicly hung drawn and quartered in the uk conspiracy to supply is not exactly crime of the century in the uk. A couple of years at most. We dont know the ins and outs of the accusations and how valid they are.

Eh, none of that matters.   Once you're wanted then you're not going to be using any ID anywhere, and especially not at Immigration.     You get a new name, new look, find a disposable bank account registered to a friend that funds can be wired into, etc.  Then you hide in plain sight in Hua Hin, or some other wretched hive of scum and villainy. 😉

Your passport cannot be taken from you whilst you are on police bail awaiting their decision on whether to charge you. However, once you are charged you are then on court bail. Application can be made by CPS to magisistrates' court to confiscate your passport until you have been tried.
