ATM/Debit card and electronic transfers not working

This is due to your SSA deposit. BKK bank will only allow you to withdraw personally at the bank.

Change your DD to your USA bank and then use WISE to send funds to Thailand.

You will also get a better exchange rate wit Wise.

i have a Bangkok Bank account set up specifically for my (US) social security deposits.

While I have no debit card for that account, I am able to login to my account online and transfer money directly to my KBank account, which has a debit card that I use for spending and payments.

Both Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank mobile apps stopped working. Went to Bangkok Nank, girl Sai system upgrade needed information re entered. App did not take the info. She used the ATM and her computer to update. Kasikorn … girl deleted app and downloaded app again, entered info and that fixed it. My suspicion? Tied to the recent announcement of banks needing to check account names and Passport/phone names all agreed. Chiang Mai.

If the money coming to your BB account is from US Social Security then you need to withdraw it at the bank with a teller. An easy option is to just go to the bank and open a second account then visit the bank once each month and withdraw ALL but a few hundred baht of your SS money and put it in the second BB account then you can use that account with bank cards.  The rule about withdrawing SS money in person at the bank is one that comes from the US.

Yes, BB disabled my ATM and online is good for checking balance only. SSA direct deposit from USA is the reason.  I also have to show up at a branch every month to 'unfreeze' the deposit. Any branch is ok to show up in person, we'll see.  Also transfer to my K-Bank account cam only be done in person at 120BT per.  Twenty baht if I want a check and go deposit at K-Bank. I've had the account since 2014. A form letter was maiked to your address on record a couple weeks ago if you're a direct deposit of SSA.

clarification! 

You use two things!

ATM and Transfer?  Im certainly not techno but what are you transferring using your ATM.

Are you saying. Your SS is setup to be sent to BB New York office and they aren't sending it in timely manner to your BB bank in Thailand?

 

Forget BB in New York send it to your U.S. bank of still have one then use Wise to your BB account.

Suggest you call the BBL call centre and discuss, rather than visit a local branch. 

 

I've spoken to the BBL call centre several times before, always advanced English, always good listeners, always understood the point I was making, always resolved.

If you are doing an ACH transfer for your US Social Security unless they changed you have to go in person to withdraw, I have one account for SS and another account for my daily use, when I get paid I just withdraw the SS money and deposit into my other account for which I have a Debit Card. I you are getting it tranfered by IDD you can get a debit card with the accoun

No, my SSc is direct deposit to Bangkok Bank Chiang Mai, there are no withdrawal restrictions.

My missus has a K bank account. Recently she cannot do any atm transactions unless she input the Thai 16 digit ID into the atm screen format. Was told by the teller that all foreign account holders will have to present their passport at the counter to do any transaction from now on. This was to discourage money laundering by foreigners.

Last year TTB switched off online banking and their app requires android 11, I had to get another phone as mine was version 9.

In the old days quality products were made to last, not anymore, built in obsolescence.

My last Wise transfer in AUD to my BBL account, done on Wed 29th May has only arrived late this evening, May 31st.

 

Many identical transfers done fortnightly through Wise have taken 2~3 minutes max from "sending " to received.

 

So this is a first!

Wonder what BBL are doing?

 

Wise can offer no reason (and I have their transfer receipt ) other than checking the account details and stating that it can take "up to 4 days" for the transfer to be processed by the receiving bank.

 

But at least it finally arrived !

Not true.. The rule does not come from the US or all banks would have to do the same. It's a BKK Bank rule

I did a Wise transfer from the US yesterday to BKK Bank. . It arrived in seconds

before IDD deposits started Bangkok Bank was the only one that SS could be sent to and the restrictions on the account were that they had to be withdrawn in person. Maybe this rule has changed not sure. But 100 percent sure that IDD deposits have no restrictions and you can have a card, my account is with Bangkok Bank, started the deposits eight years ago and I could not have a card with this account, wife has hers with Krungthai and hers is done by IDD with no restrictions

originally Bangkok Bank was only Bank you could get your SS deposited too, had to do it in person, these were ACH transfers from New York, when IDD started a couple of years ago several banks were allowed to accept the deposits with no restrictions.

OK for the non US citizen part, have several non US citizen friends getting SS in Thailand. The biggest question is your money coming from New York which is an ACH transfer or are you getting it through the IDD channel. When did you apply for SS in Thailand, if within the last couple of years it was probably done through IDD which has no restrictions on it.

It's not via NY, I believe it comes via Worldpay or Citi IDD.

What is the solution to transfer your money other than going to the bank in person to do the transaction? I heard the Thaturns out my cc was letting me i Gov has a new policy stopping all transfers if the money has come from outside the country.

Yes this happed to me. I went to visit to resolve. The bank cc issued was stopped as this account type is limited to withdrawals and

The transfer feature, which is now a problem as it too no longer works and that is suppose to be available. Back to the bank

Basicly that is what I was told as well. I tried to tranfer to my gf and it failed. Back to the bank

Thanks, does the direct deposit account let you transfer via ibanking or you have to go into the bank to trasfer there?

I had the same problem with my account. I received my SSI deposited in America but could not withdraw any baht. I know my card is good. That was in Udon Thani. I tried 2 different atm’s as well. Still nothing.
